๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ”ฅLINSEED OIL CAN IGNITE ON ITS OWN! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿšจ

Many people are surprised to learn that a simple pile of oily rags can become a serious fire hazard.

Linseed oil generates heat as it dries. When rags, paper, cardboard, or other absorbent materials soaked with linseed oil are left crumpled or piled together, that heat can become trapped. As temperatures rise, the materials can ignite without a spark, flame, or other ignition source.

โš ๏ธ Protect Your Home & Family
โœ”๏ธ Spread oily rags out flat to dry completely.
โœ”๏ธ Submerge used rags in water inside a sealed metal container.
โœ”๏ธ Store oily materials in approved metal containers with tight-fitting lids.
โœ”๏ธ Never throw oily rags into a pile, trash can, cardboard box, or dryer.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Remember: Boiled linseed oil, oil-based stains, varnishes, and some wood-finishing products may pose similar risks.

A few simple precautions can prevent a devastating fire.

05/17/2026

Due to current dry weather conditions and an increased risk of wildfire, the Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), in coordination with local public safety officials, has issues a countywide burn ban for the next seven (7) days. This burn ban remains in effect from May 15, 2026 through May 22, 2026, unless extended or lifted earlier based on weather conditions.

During this time, all outdoor burning is strictly prohibited, including but not limited to:
๐Ÿ”ฅ Yard debris burning
๐Ÿ”ฅ Campfires
๐Ÿ”ฅ Bonfires
๐Ÿ”ฅ Agricultural burns without proper authorization

The purpose of this temporary burn ban is to protect lives, property, and natural resources by reducing the risk of uncontrolled fires during dry conditions.

Residents are urged to:
๐Ÿ”ฅ Avoid any activities that could create sparks or open flames
๐Ÿ”ฅ Properly dispose of ci******es and flammable materials
๐Ÿ”ฅ Report any signs of fire immediately by calling 911

Failure to comply with the burn ban may result in fines or other penalties as enforced by local and state regulations.
