Day 3 of Plumas Cal-TREX!

So far, participants have learned about chain of command and radio communications, burn unit delineation, pump and hose lay familiarization, and so much more! There has also been an amazing talk on traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) from members of the Maidu community, an eco-therapy session, and some fire science mixed in!

The RCD is hiring a Fuels Reduction Crew Lead for the season!

This opportunity is for a Field Supervisor position overseeing the Fuels Reduction Crew working primarily on various private land throughout Plumas County as well as the Plumas National Forest and Plumas-Eureka State Park. Projects will complete forest health restoration and fire mitigation activities in areas where high severity fire has occurred, or within dense forests that need to be managed to prevent high severity fire in the future.

Technical duties include manual labor by removal of trees with use of chainsaws and swamping/piling trees and brush. The season will run from approximately March to November 2024. Start and end dates may change due to snowpack and weather conditions. Compensation is $26-$30/hour.

🌲🔥 Field Trips with Friends: Fire Footprint & Forest Resiliency Tour 🔥🌲

🗓️ Date: August 10, 2023
⏰ Time: 3:30 PM - 7:30 PM
📍 Meeting Point: Safeway parking lot, Quincy

Join Friends of Plumas Wilderness and Feather River RCD for an immersive experience in the PNF. Together, we will explore the fire footprints of the Minerva (2017) and North Complex (2020) fires and witness the ongoing restoration work by the Feather River RCD.

🚗 Transportation: Meet at the Safeway parking lot in Quincy at 3:30 PM. We will then drive up Peppard Flat Road to reach the fire footprint area. Vehicles with clearance similar to a small SUV and above are recommended. Carpooling is encouraged to minimize our environmental impact.

👟 What to Bring: Don't forget to bring water and wear closed-toe shoes for the walking tour. Hard copy maps will be provided upon request.

🌿 Discussion: From 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the Minerva Fire area, we will delve into various approaches to forest restoration work and discuss how we can adapt to larger-scale restoration efforts in light of recent fires like the North Complex and Dixie fires.

Tomorrow, 4/22, join the RCD and UC Cooperative Extension for an Earth Day Volunteer Tree Planting in Greenville! We will be meeting at the 133 Hideaway Road (the Cemetery).

From 9-10 there will be an educational presentation on reforestation and property management presented by UC Cooperative Extension

From 10-3pm we will be planting seedlings! Seedlings and tools provided. Please bring gloves, long pants, sturdy shoes, sun protection, lunch and LOTS of water - it'll be a warm day.

Plumas Cal-TREX registration is open!

The event starts the last weekend of February and will take advantage of prescribed burn opportunities throughout the year.

It is open to individuals who are interested in learning and sharing their knowledge of prescribed fire. No prior fire training or qualifications are required to participate.
