A lifetime and legacy that extends far beyond the stage, Dolly Parton’s impact can be felt from the foothills of Tennessee to the plains of Texas to right here in Adams County.
With a dazzling smile, a sparkling outfit and a heart even bigger than her legendary personality, Dolly has always been a shining light for the world around her. We are devastated to hear of the passing of the fearless, dazzling, smart, funny, formidable, brave and incredibly generous Dolly Parton. She truly leaves this world better than she found it.
Thanks to Dolly’s generosity and vision, children around the world receive books delivered straight to their door every month, completely free of charge through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Since the program began, more than 300 million books have been placed in the hands of children, helping spark imaginations, build a love of reading and shape the minds of tomorrow’s leaders.
Here in Adams County, her legacy is already making a lasting impact. In just two years, more than 2,400 local children have received a new book every single month, delivered right to their doorstep. Without Dolly, none of that would be possible.
As we mourn her passing, we choose to celebrate all the wonderful things she made possible, and all the wonderful things she will continue to make possible through a legacy that will live on for generations.
At United Way of Adams County, we are incredibly proud to carry a small piece of that legacy forward and help bring Dolly’s gift of books and the joy of reading to children right here in our community.
