🚨Quincy Police Department PSA for Parents:

Over the past several weeks, we’ve received numerous complaints about the erratic operation of e-bikes and ATVs in the Houghs Neck and Germantown neighborhoods, including on the d**e (an emergency access road—not a trail or riding area).

These vehicles have grown in popularity, but operating them unsafely can lead to serious injury or worse. We are asking parents and guardians to take a few minutes this weekend to talk with your kids about safe operation:

⚠️ Always wear a properly fitted helmet.
⚠️ Use only age-appropriate vehicles (youth models for younger riders; no adult-sized ATVs for kids under 16).
⚠️ Follow all traffic laws—ride predictably, stay in your lane, and never swerve into traffic.
⚠️ Be visible to drivers (bright clothing, lights, and reflectors).
⚠️ Avoid distractions—no earbuds or phone use while riding.
⚠️ No passengers on single-rider ATVs or e-bikes not designed for them.
⚠️ Supervise younger riders and set clear rules before they head out.

A few minutes of conversation and supervision can prevent a lifetime of regret. Let’s work together to keep our kids and our neighborhoods safe.

We were excited to welcome more than 1,200 Scouts from across New England to the Presidents Trail Camporee! Over the holiday weekend, Scouts participated in a full schedule of exciting activities and events.

As part of their experience, the Scouts traveled throughout the City to learn about our rich history. One of the weekend’s major projects was an incredible team-building effort: planting 25,000 daffodil bulbs in just 48 hours along the berm on Merrymount Parkway, across from Adams Field.

We are grateful for all that our Scouts do for the City of Presidents and proud to have hosted such an enthusiastic and respectful group. We hope everyone who participated in the Presidents Trail Camporee had a fun, memorable, and safe weekend.

Thank you to all the Scouts and volunteers who helped make this event such a success.

🚨Traffic Alert🚨

Due to a motor vehicle accident Adams St and Stedman St is on flash while repairs are being made.

It will take about an hour or so to clean up/make the intersection safe and restore lights to working condition. The downed traffic signal signal will be replaced early this week.

In the meantime, please proceed through the intersection with caution.

This past Wednesday, the Quincy Police Department was invited by our friends at Starbucks to visit their Quincy Center location for National Coffee with a Cop Day.

It was a great opportunity to spend time chatting with customers and staff, connecting with members of our community, and strengthening the relationships that make Quincy such a special place.

We sincerely appreciate the hospitality of the Starbucks team and their invitation to join them for this wonderful community event!
At the QPD, we take great pride in our community engagement efforts and believe that building trust and fostering positive relationships with the people we serve are essential to effective policing.

As Sir Robert Peel famously stated:
“The police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.”

More than 1 in 3 Massachusetts children, ages birth to 12 years live in low-income or homeless situations. Without adequate and appropriate clothing, these kids face unfair barriers. Cradles to Crayons Massachusetts mission is to provide these children with the essential items they need to feel safe, warm, ready to learn and to feel valued.

Today through a October 23, 2026, the Quincy Police Department, City of Quincy City Hall and various local businesses will host a donation bin collecting new or like-new clothing and shoes in ALL ages and sizes! The purple donation box is located in our police department lobby and we are open 24/hours a day. Cradles to Crayons also has an Amazon wishlist available, is posted below:

Wednesday, October 7th is National Coffee with a Cop Day and we will be celebrating at Starbucks 1245 Hancock Street from 9:00am-11:00am.

Stop by, grab a coffee and have a chat with members of our Community Service’s Unit! We are looking forward to seeing you all!

Today on the 99th Anniversary of his death, we remember Patrolman Alfred Hollis who was shot and killed when he and his partner responded to a burglary call at a local hardware store.

Patrolman Hollis went to the back of the store and the other officer went to the front. The second officer heard a shot and ran to the back of the store where he found Patrolman Hollis fatally wounded. A suspect was arrested after a shootout with police in Connecticut. The man pled guilty and was sentenced to life in prison and has since died.

Patrolman Hollis had served with the department for one year. He was survived by his wife and three children.

The City of Quincy and the Quincy Police Department will never forget the sacrifice and service of Officer Hollis, who sacrificed his life in the line of duty.

Officers, Donnelly and Hartnett assigned to the QPD Community Service Unit attended the monthly Kids Workshop at the Home Depot on Centre Street.

We were joined by the Quincy Fire Department, Engine 5 crew at the event.

The Event is held monthly on the first Saturday of each month and is free to all kids in the community. There are details available online and you are able to signup prior to the class.

We are grateful in the city of Quincy to have very generous and supportive business partners that do great things for our community.

Thanks to Home Depot Employee Carol Hoey for the invite and hospitality. Great fun was had by all. If you have a Saturday with no plans it’s well worth checking out.

• Our department can help with safety planning, protective orders, and connecting you to local advocates and shelters. Reports can be made in person, by phone, or through our non-emergency line.
You do not need visible injuries to ask for help. Friends and neighbors who are worried about someone can also reach out—early intervention saves lives.
