On April 21st, 2026 the Wood County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, Wood County Criminal Investigations Division along with personnel from Alcohol, To***co, Fi****ms and Explosives (ATF), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division executed eight Federal Warrants for numerous offenses of conspiracy to distribute narcotics, felon in possession of firearm while distributing narcotics, and possession and distribution of narcotics.
Wood County Criminal Investigations Division had been gathering intelligence about several locations in neighboring counties that were distributing large amounts of methamphetamine to Wood County lower level dealers. This came as a direct result of drug related arrests conducted by our patrol division as well as our property crimes division of CID. Eventually this led to a combined effort with ATF, DPS, and DEA which had been monitoring some of the same individuals. These agencies came together as a dedicated group with joint cooperation and intelligence sharing providing not only valuable information but technology and man power. After several months of dedicated work by all agencies as well as countless man hours, this multi-agency cooperation led to multiple Federal Indictments of not only the higher- level dealers from surrounding counties but also large quantity dealers from larger metropolitan areas. This operation led to the seizure of several kilograms of methamphetamine as well as the seizure of fi****ms, cash, vehicles, etc. This operation also uncovered information which led our Investigations Division to the arrest of one individual who facilitated the ambush of one of Wood County’s Patrol Sergeants and a DPS Trooper with warrants being issued for attempted capital murder on both Officers. This individual is incarcerated in the Wood County Jail. Investigators were also able to identify the person funding the operation with both methamphetamine and cash for the purchase of the fi****ms used in the ambush. This same individual has been identified as a supplier of several kilograms of methamphetamine that was funneled down to lower level Wood County drug dealers. This individual along with three that were already incarcerated in the Wood County Jail were all federally indicted.
All individuals were remanded into Federal Custody to await prosecution.
Sheriff Kelly Cole has dedicated a lifetime to Law Enforcement in Wood County. He has seen first hand what narcotics can do to an individual as well as to families and community. Sheriff Cole would like to thank all agencies involved in this operation and recognize the importance of cooperation with other agencies. Wood County has experienced tremendous growth over the years yet the Sheriff’s Office remains under staffed. This makes it even more important to recognize the hard-work, countless number of man hours and time away from family that these hardworking Officers dedicate on a daily basis for this community.
Sheriff Cole would also like to point out that this was only phase 1 of an operation that will be on going in Wood County and cooperation will continue with these agencies to not only eliminate dealers in Wood County but to continue to identify and take out the supply of methamphetamine coming into this county.

It has been brought to our attention that someone is calling people claiming to be a Sergeant O’Grady with the Wood County Sheriff’s Office and that he has important paperwork that needs to be signed by you. This is not how our investigators operate and this is a scam. Once again, it is important that if you receive a suspicious call to hang up and call back the correct number for the business/organization to verify.
