The Brooks County High School Construction Department has successfully achieved State Certification through ConstructionReady, the governing body for construction education programs across the state.
This prestigious certification is the result of a rigorous, year-long process that included:
• Comprehensive documentation of student work, skills mastery, and academic achievements
• Demonstration of meaningful community relations and positive local impact
• Detailed review of classroom and lab setups, equipment usage, and instructional practices
• Strong evidence of industry involvement, partnerships, and support
• Successful issuance of nationally recognized Safety certificates to students
This accomplishment reflects the outstanding dedication of the Construction Department
instructor, Mr. Mitchell, the hard work and talent of the students, and the collaborative support of
local industry partners and the community. State Certification through ConstructionReady affirms that Brooks County High School’s Construction program meets the highest standards for preparing students for successful careers in the construction industry.

Each year, the Georgia Department of Education ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Program, in collaboration with the statewide English Learner Advisory Committee, honors one exemplary English Language Learner and one exemplary ESOL teacher from each school district in Georgia. This year, Brooks County Schools proudly recognized Karla Zepeda Rivera – Exemplary ESOL Learner, and Brooks County High School Class of 2026 Honor Graduate; and Jan Hasenfelt – Exemplary ESOL Teacher. Students selected for the Exemplary English Learner recognition must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA while demonstrating leadership, exemplary character, and outstanding behavior. Jan Hasenfelt was selected by the district as the Exemplary ESOL Teacher. This recognition honors educators who make a meaningful impact on English learners through professionalism, leadership, and dedication to students and families.

We are extremely proud to recognize the Peer Props staff members and GRIT student winners for the last nine weeks of the school year. The Peer Props Award is given to a staff member at each school and the Central Office, based on nominations from their co-workers. This celebrates staff at all levels who truly go above and beyond, creating a culture of gratitude, teamwork, and positivity in every setting. The GRIT student awards are based on nominations from staff members at their schools. This celebrates students who demonstrate the GRIT acronym—Growth, Resilience, Innovation, and Teamwork. Each winner will receive a framed certificate, and free coffee or ice cream cone from Camellia Coffee and Creamery in downtown Quitman.
