Quitman Fire Department Our goal is to serve and protect the community of Quitman, TX. We are 100% volunteer fire department we are driven by the communities support.

We are a volunteer fire department made up of 16 members including the 5 officers listed below. We would not be able to operate without the community's support and donations. We greatly appreciate the support from everyone in the community. If you might be interested in joining either stop by the station or message us with any questions you might have. Chief: Colton Otto

Our department has received several grass fire calls recently throughout the area from the Quitman city limits out toward CR 1416 off FM 2966.

With how hot and extremely dry conditions are right now, grass, brush, and vegetation can ignite quickly and fires can spread rapidly β€” especially with even a little wind. 🌾πŸ”₯

We ask everyone to please use EXTREME CAUTION with anything that could create a spark or flame. Be especially careful with outdoor burning, welding, equipment, vehicles parked in dry grass, and anything involving fire.

πŸš’ One small spark can turn into a large grass fire in minutes.

Please help us prevent fires before they start. If you see a fire, call 911 and give your location as accurately as possible.

With the hot, dry conditions we’ve been experiencing, it’s prime time for grass fires. Our volunteer firefighters recently spent time training on grass fire operations, including fire behavior, hose line deployment, containment, and working safely around fast-moving fire.

Dry grass, low humidity, high temperatures, and wind can cause a small fire to spread quickly and become difficult to control. A fire that starts from a mower, vehicle, equipment, debris burn, or even a small spark can turn into a serious wildfire in a matter of minutes.

πŸš’ Training today helps us be ready when the call comes tomorrow.

Please help us prevent grass fires:
β€’ Avoid burning on windy or extremely dry days
β€’ Keep trailer chains and equipment from dragging
β€’ Be careful with ci******es and outdoor equipment
β€’ Never leave a fire unattended
β€’ Make sure burn piles and campfires are completely out

Tornado warnings sirens tested all good

August is the normal peak month for volume of wildfire occurrence due to seasonal hot and dry conditions. Climate Prediction Center Monthly outlooks for August indicate the state will likely experience above normal temperatures and dry conditions. These conditions will continue to decrease live and dead fuel moisture which will increase fire activity potential.

Please stay current with Texas fuels/fire danger products at https://ticc.tamu.edu/PredictiveServices/default.aspx and local your fire weather forecast at https://www.weather.gov/srh/

If you don't absolutely need to burn outside, please don't. Wait until we get some rain to reduce the risk. We really appreciate it!
