Eyes on the Pond: Become a Southampton Pond Keeper - Virtual 💧Monday, May 4 at 5:30 pm
Southampton’s 200+ public freshwater bodies serve as critical headwaters for our marine bays, yet they lack formal monitoring at the Federal, State, or Local levels. To address this gap, the Citizen Science Learning Center (CSLC) is launching the Pond Keeper program: a citizen-led monitoring network designed to track Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs). In this presentation on Zoom, learn about the goals of CSLC and the roles you can play as a volunteer to protect public health and provide elected officials with the evidence needed for future water resource management. This is a free program. SIGN UP HERE: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/ztE2A23pRzGy62mVf-Tixg #/registration

Happy Earth Day! 🌎 🌱
What a great day it was celebrating the beauty of our local environment with our fellow organizations who work so hard to promote conservation on Long Island!

A huge thank you to all of organizations who attended today, along with Hampton Coffee Company Coffee Company , Land and Sea Smokehouse , Ben and Jerry’s of Riverhead serving up delicious treats.

And to the "all weather" visitors who enjoyed kayaking, face painting, meeting live animals and guided bird walks, & recycling, we had so much fun and can’t wait to see you back at the Refuge soon. You remind us that Earth Day really is Everyday!

Our Storybook Walk has been featuring a special conservation-themed experience all month long in honor of Earth Month—and Earth Day is the perfect time to enjoy it before it changes back to a children’s story book on April 23.

Take a peaceful walk on the trail (open sunrise to sunset) and discover signs of spring along the way. On the self-guided Conservation Walk, you will find 18 conservation signs highlighting actions you can take to make a positive impact on the Earth. Great information and actions on various topics including dark skies, fast fashion, lawn chemicals, and more.
Bring a friend, immerse yourself in nature, and learn some new ways to honor and celebrate the planet we all share.

Restitching Ecological Communities – Virtual
April 22 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm🌲
Over the past few centuries natural landscapes have experienced significant fragmentation due to development and other human activities. Features such as roads, highways, culverts and dams have impeded the movement of wildlife leading to their decline and loss. This zoom presentation, on Earth Day, will explore the problem, and describe a number of strategies that conservationists are employing throughout the world to help wildlife cope in an increasingly human world. This is a free program. Registration Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/mpMhpa7qTxO-HAE-01EWYw
