🎆 4th of July is coming up fast! 🎆
As we get ready to celebrate Independence Day with family, friends, and fireworks, the Racine Police Department wants to make sure everyone has a fun—and safe—holiday.
Before the festivities begin, keep these essential safety tips in mind for your family:
🧨 Know the Law on Fireworks
Leave it to the pros: In the City of Racine, most fireworks are illegal without a permit. A good rule of thumb: if it explodes or leaves the ground, it's not allowed. Stick to legal novelties like sparklers, and enjoy the city's official displays!
Sparkler safety: Sparklers burn at temperatures hot enough to melt glass (around 2,000°F). Never hand them to young children, and make sure to drop used sparklers into a bucket of water.
🚗 Stay Safe on the Roads
Drive sober: If your celebration includes alcohol, designate a driver or use a rideshare service. Our officers will be out in full force keeping the roads safe.
Buckle up: Ensure everyone in the vehicle is properly buckled, especially with extra holiday traffic.
🐾Protect Your Pets
Keep them inside: The loud noises of fireworks can be terrifying for pets, causing many to run away. Keep them indoors in a quiet, secure room.
Check their tags: Make sure your pet’s collar tags and microchip information are up to date just in case they do get out.
🔥 Grilling & Outdoor Safety
Keep your distance: Keep grills at least 3 feet away from your house, siding, deck railings, and out from under overhanging branches. Never leave children unattended near a hot grill or campfire.
Beat the heat: Keep everyone hydrated, including any pets outside.
Let’s work together to make this 4th of July memorable for all the right reasons. Have a fantastic and safe holiday, Racine! 🌟
