A Message From Lovingkindness Transitional Services
This week, Lovingkindness Transitional Services participated in an Emergency Resource Fair to provide much-needed assistance to individuals and families in our community, with a focus on individuals living with serious mental illness. We were also able to provide limited assistance to community walk-ins.
Through the event, we distributed Walmart, Woodman’s, Goodwill and Value Village gift cards, along with bus passes, to help individuals meet immediate basic needs.
Unfortunately, we have since become aware that assistance received at the event was offered for resale shortly afterward.
We sincerely thank the members of our community who brought this matter to our attention. Your willingness to speak up helps us protect limited resources and ensure assistance reaches individuals and families who genuinely need it.
This incident has been documented and reported to our community partner. We maintain records of all individuals who received assistance, and the individual involved will no longer be eligible to receive emergency assistance through Lovingkindness Transitional Services.
This is deeply disappointing and will not be tolerated.
These resources were provided to help individuals experiencing hardship, not for resale or personal profit. When assistance intended to meet an immediate need is obtained and then offered for sale, resources that could have helped another individual or family in need are lost.
Lovingkindness Transitional Services has a responsibility to our community, partners, and funders to protect the resources entrusted to us. Documented misuse of assistance will be addressed accordingly, and suspected fraudulent activity will be reported to partner agencies or appropriate authorities when warranted.
At the same time, the actions of one individual will not change our commitment to serving people who genuinely need help. We know many individuals and families in our community are struggling, and Lovingkindness Transitional Services will continue working to ensure resources reach those they are intended to support.
Moving forward, we will implement an additional layer of verification when providing emergency assistance. While we never want the process of asking for help to become unnecessarily difficult, we also have a responsibility to protect limited resources and ensure they are reaching individuals and families with a genuine need. Our goal will always be to balance accessibility with accountability.
