In honor of Women’s History Month, we remember Alderwoman Mollie Jones, the longtime chair of the Transit Commission.

Her leadership and dedication were an incredible asset to RYDE Racine and our entire community, and her impact will not be forgotten.

City of Racine Women’s History Month • Mollie Jones

Mollie Jones made Racine her home and built a career that included 33 years at JI Case before later working at Boston Store. When the 2nd District alder seat became vacant, she stepped forward to serve and was elected to the Racine City Council.

As longtime Chair of the Public Works and Services Committee, Jones played an active role in infrastructure oversight, preservation of historic streets, strengthening city services, and efforts to improve voter access. She also served on multiple boards and commissions, bringing practical insight and strong neighborhood knowledge to her work.

Re-elected in April 2024, Jones was regarded as a dedicated and accessible advocate for her district. She was an active member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and grounded her public service in community commitment.

Alderwoman Jones passed away in February 2025 while serving in elected office, leaving a record of steady leadership and service to the City of Racine.

Throughout Women’s History Month, the City of Racine is highlighting women whose dedication, courage, and leadership have helped build the Racine we know today. More stories to come.

🚌✨ Transit Equity Day | Honoring Rosa Parks and the Civil Rights Movement ✨🚌

Yesterday, RYDE Racine honored the legacy of Rosa Parks on Transit Equity Day by recognizing the vital role public transit plays in equity, access, and opportunity for our community. On Rosa Parks’ birthday, a seat was dedicated to her on every RYDE Racine bus as a reminder of her courage and lasting impact.

We’re proud to serve riders every day by helping connect people to jobs, family, and community because transit should work for everyone.

Thank you TMJ4 News for the coverage!

Today, the City of Racine recognizes Transit Equity Day, honoring the legacy of Rosa Parks and the ongoing role public transit plays in advancing equity, access, and opportunity.

Transit equity means ensuring that every resident, regardless of income, age, ability, or neighborhood, can reliably reach jobs, education, healthcare, and essential services. Public transportation is not just about mobility. It is a cornerstone of a strong, inclusive community.

In recognition of Transit Equity Day, each RYDE Racine bus will reserve one seat in honor of Rosa Parks, acknowledging that transit remains a fundamental pillar of democracy in Racine.

We are proud to join communities nationwide in reaffirming our commitment to accessible, inclusive, and equitable transportation for all.
