Racine Wastewater always promotes the three Ps! If it's not p**p, p*e, or paper, it shouldn't go down the toilet!

Items that are labelled flushable can still cause clogs or issues in the sewer system or at the Wastewater Plant. To properly dispose of cooking grease let it cool completely and then dispose of it in the trash and cooking oil can be taken to one of the Household Hazardous Waste Collection events.

This week, EquiFlow crews will be actively working on Lasalle St, Douglas Ave, and Jackson St to keep the lead service line replacement work moving forward.

If you live in or drive through these areas, keep an eye out for crew activity and use extra caution for everyone's safety.

We appreciate your patience as this work continues. Every line replaced is a step closer to a lead-free future for Racine!

It’s hard to believe another summer of lifeguard season is already coming to an end. ❤️🌊

Lifeguards will be on duty at Zoo Beach through tomorrow, Tuesday, August 18, and at North Beach through Sunday, August 23.

Once lifeguards are no longer on duty, please remember:
• Enjoy our beaches responsibly
• Stay aware of water conditions and hazards
• Never swim beyond your abilities

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible lifeguard team for another summer of dedication, hard work and watchful eyes. Your presence helps make our beaches safe and welcoming, and we truly appreciate all you do!

While the beaches remain open, please take extra care and stay safe when lifeguards are not on duty.

Yesterday, we celebrated another major milestone in the transformation of Racine’s Lincoln-King neighborhood with a ribbon-cutting for the new Townhomes at Lincoln-King.

The townhomes are part of a nearly $100 million investment in the neighborhood, including new housing, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, health care services, and major public infrastructure improvements. The housing development was supported by a $15 million state grant funded through the American Rescue Plan Act.

At the heart of this work is a commitment to homeownership. Community engagement with nearly 6,000 residents helped identify affordable and attainable homeownership, access to health care, and safe community spaces as priorities for the neighborhood.

Bringing that vision to life has taken an extraordinary partnership among residents, City staff, elected leaders, local organizations, and partners at the local, state, and federal levels.

The new townhomes represent another important piece of that vision: creating new opportunities for homeownership while continuing the investment in a stronger, more connected Lincoln-King neighborhood.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Bishop Lawrence L. Kirby, a dear friend and trusted advisor whose faith and leadership have left an indelible mark on Racine.

For decades, Bishop Kirby was a spiritual leader to thousands. At times when our community looked to its clergy for inspiration and guidance through difficult moments, he was there, offering prayer, pastoral care, and a steady voice of leadership.

His influence extended far beyond the church. He strengthened families, mentored young people, and worked to create a stronger, more connected community. Last year, we had the privilege of naming a street in his honor, recognizing the extraordinary impact he had on Racine during his lifetime.

On behalf of the City of Racine, I extend my deepest condolences to Dr. Renee Sartin-Kirby, their family, and the entire St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church family.

Racine is stronger because Bishop Kirby was here, and his legacy will live on in the countless people whose lives he touched.

đź’§ Water Wednesday

Chlorine has been used to disinfect drinking water in the United States for more than a century, helping protect communities from germs that can cause illness.

The Racine Water Utility tests drinking water every day—even on Christmas—to make sure chlorine levels remain within the recommended range and provide effective disinfection throughout the water distribution system.
