Monday Night Hot Meal Program

Monday Night Hot Meal Program A hot meal, warm fellowship, a cup of coffee, and a place to just be in a safe, non-judgmental, and welcoming space.

Thanks to the blizzard, we’ve made the terribly difficult decision to close the Monday Night Hot Meal for tonight. 🌨️ 🌬️ This is the first time we’ve had to do this in several decades, but we are very concerned for the safety of our guests and of our volunteers. Wherever you are, please hunker down, and stay warm and safe! May God bless you all. ♥️

So during a brainstorm session over serving up the meal last night, someone said we should make a cookbook with all of the Hot Meal recipes from around town as a fundraiser. If we put together a Monday Night Hot Meal cookbook, who would be interested?? (This is my working image and our working title, so please don’t “borrow” it! 😊)

Our amazing friends from Carthage College engineering department did a canned food drive for the Monday Night Hot Meal little food pantry - WOW!! they collected over 1600 cans of food!! We were so overwhelmed with their generosity that we decided to share the love by giving that incredible donation to our wonderful partners at the Hospitality Center. ♥️ Carthage College, from the bottom of our hearts we all thank you. (Hey, Pastor Holly doesn’t let her picture be taken in a Packers apron for just anybody!)

Ruben was a much beloved regular guest at our Monday Night Hot Meal program, and he is already deeply missed. Please come join us as we celebrate his life and all he meant to so many of us!

The very first guest to walk through our doors in 2011 was Ruben Ramon. The Hospitality Center is community and family for many.

Ruben bravely served our country In Vietnam and was a treasured, regular guest.

Please join us in saying goodbye to Ruben:

Thursday, November 13
2:30pm
St. Luke's Episcopal Church Downtown Racine, 614 Main Street

We will always have a place at the table for Ruben as he is forever in our hearts. May he rest in peace, warm and sheltered.

💥Wow!💥 Our guests at this week’s Monday Night Hot Meal were SO excited about our Little Food Pantry, and so grateful for the help! 🥹 We serve many in the community who are homeless, elderly, or otherwise challenged. We listened hard to what they need; because of their situations ready-to-eat foods are especially helpful to them. So we‘ve updated our list:

- Summer sausages and beef sticks
- Canned meats (chicken, tuna, corned beef, etc) in pull-top, tuna or chicken in pouches, tuna or chicken salad and cracker packets 🍗🐟
- Ready to eat, hearty soups in pull-top cans – not condensed. (vegetable beef, chicken dumpling, beef stew, etc!) 🍲
- Canned pasta (again in pop top cans) – with meat is great 🍝
- Ramen noodle packets, ramen noodle cups, instant mac-n-cheese, and other instant meals 🍜
- Oatmeal, cold cereal, 🥣 protein bars or breakfast bars
- Juices and juice mixes, powdered Kool-Aid, Crystal Lite, etc 🧃
- Protein drinks (like Ensure) help our elderly
- Shelf stable milk 🥛
- Loaves of bread 🍞

📣 We are also accepting eggs, cheese, and butter!

** Drop off at St. Luke’s Church, 614 Main St., RACINE , between 3:00 and 4:15 PM**

(Please - no veggies! We have enough to feed an army! 😂)

It was a great day to support our partners, the Hospitality Center of Racine, by walking a mile in someone else’s shoes to raise awareness of those in our community living in poverty!!

We feed people. That’s what we do. And we are very concerned about what’s going on right now with so many not knowing how they’ll feed themselves, and their families. SO…💥 Every Monday night from now until SNAP benefits are reinstated we will set up a small food “pantry“ at Monday Night Hot Meal. 💥 If you are willing to drop off some items that we can give out to those in need, we would be really grateful! We’re thinking pantry staples, and we’re asking that all cans be easy open/pull tab since a lot of our guests don’t have access to a can opener. You can drop food off at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on Mondays between 3-4:30 pm; we start serving our meal at 4:30, so it gets a little crazy after that. Thank you! HeartIf you’re interested, I’m posting the list of suggestions in the first comment below: ⬇️

Tonight we set a place one last time for our friend, Reuben, who passed away last week. Several of us have known Reuben for at least 10 years or more. He was a Vietnam combat veteran, one of the ones who came home in body, but not in spirit. Reuben fought a number of battles here at home. He experienced homelessness frequently, and yet he remained ever positive and upbeat. Today our hearts hurt, but we know that he will never have to worry about being cold again now, and will forever have a home in God’s Kingdom – and in our hearts. Rest easy, friend.
