Our Program Team hosted our newest cohort of Volunteer Grief Facilitators for training! Over this weekend long session, volunteers got the opportunity to learn grief theory, facilitation skills, and how to support children who are grieving. Soon, this great group of individuals will join our returning volunteers to help create a space for our grieving families to connect and share their stories at our center. We could not support our community without them! ⭐💚

Mission Monday ⭐💚

The first day of school can bring excitement, nerves, and new beginnings, but for a student who is grieving, it can also bring difficult emotions and reminders of their person who died.

A few ways teachers and school communities can support a grieving student:
⭐ Give them space to share, or not share, when they’re ready.
⭐ Recognize that grief can affect focus, behavior, friendships, and academic performance.
⭐ Offer flexibility, patience, and a trusted adult support they can turn to.
⭐ Remind them they don’t have to navigate their grief alone.

Through our School-Based Grief Support Groups, Peter’s Place brings grief support directly to students in their school communities, creating a safe space where they can connect with other students who understand. Learn more about supporting a grieving student at PetersPlaceOnline.org.

At Peter’s Place, there are many knights in shining armor placed throughout our space, ranging from just 1 inch tall to 7 feet tall! They are a special tribute to Peter, who loved knights.

When Peter died, his most favorite knight, Sam, was left in his room. Peter’s parents felt that Sam should be at Peter’s Place, standing tall as a symbol of protection and hope for the children, teens, and families who walk through our doors. ⭐💚

Our Program Team recently participated in an Internal Family Systems (IFS) training session led by Peter’s Place Board Member and Clinical Social Worker/Therapist, Lara Krawchuk.

IFS is an approach that helps individuals better understand their thoughts, emotions, and experiences with greater compassion and self-awareness. Our team found this training valuable in gaining new tools and perspectives to further support the children, teens, and families we serve.

We are grateful to Lara for sharing her expertise and helping our team continue to grow in our work! ⭐💚

Mission Monday ⭐💚
Did you know? Many children feel nervous before their first visit to Peter's Place, but by the end, one of the things we hear most often is, "I don't want to leave" or "When are we coming back?" That's why we work hard to create a warm, welcoming space where everyone feels comfortable and not alone.
