As Mayor of the City of Rahway, I unequivocally denounce the violent incident that took place at former President Trump's rally today. Violence is never acceptable and has no place in our society. Such actions are contrary to our national values. It is essential that we uphold principles of civil discourse and nonviolent protest. My heart goes out to all those impacted by this tragic event, and I urge for unity and peace in the face of this terrible act.

Today marks a pivotal moment in history—June 19, 1865—when freedom was proclaimed for enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, by Union Army General Gordon Granger.

This day is more than a historical milestone; it’s a reminder of the ongoing journey toward justice and equality for our Black and African American residents. Let us come together to honor their contributions and reflect on the significance of this day as we work towards a fairer future.

While Juneteenth is just one day, our commitment to celebrating the rich diversity of Rahway’s community is unwavering. I extend my best wishes to everyone for a meaningful and joyous Juneteenth!
