The Rainbow City Police Department had the honor of hosting the Initial Response and Tactics to Missing and Abducted Children training course, presented by the National Criminal Justice Training Center of Fox Valley Technical College.

Law enforcement officers from agencies across the state attended this important training, strengthening their knowledge and preparedness to respond to cases involving missing and abducted children.

A special thank-you to Detective Sgt. Pell for organizing and coordinating this valuable training opportunity for our agency and partnering law enforcement agencies. We appreciate your dedication to continued training and professional development.

The second full week of school is officially over, and Officer Prater is already having the best year ever… mostly because there are donuts.

THANK YOU to our amazing teachers, students, staff, parents, and community for making the start of this school year such an awesome one! We appreciate everything you do to make our schools a great place to be.

Keep up the great work, have a safe weekend, and somebody please make sure Prater doesn’t eat all the donuts.

The Attalla Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating Emmaliyah Grace Matchen, a 15-year-old missing/runaway juvenile.

Description:
• 15 years old
• 5'6" tall
• Approximately 150 lbs.
• Brown hair

Emmaliyah Grace Matchen was last seen on August 27, 2026, at approximately 10:00 PM in the Walker Drive area within the Attalla city limits.

At this time, it is unknown what clothing she was wearing when she was last seen.

If you have seen Emmaliyah Grace Matchen or have any information regarding her current whereabouts, please contact the Attalla Police Department Dispatch immediately at 256-538-7837 or Detectives at 256-455-3698.

𝑹𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑹𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝑶𝒇𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒓 𝑹𝒐𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒕 “𝑾𝒂𝒚𝒏𝒆” 𝑮𝒂𝒓𝒎𝒐𝒏

It is with great sadness that the Rainbow City Police Department mourns the passing of retired Officer Robert “Wayne” Garmon, 89, who passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026.

Officer Garmon was born in Gadsden and spent much of his life dedicated to serving and protecting others. His commitment to public service included honorable service in both the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army, as well as a career in law enforcement that took him from Pennsylvania to Alabama.

Officer Garmon served with the Rainbow City Police Department during two periods:

• April 1, 1989 – February 28, 1999
• January 4, 2008 – November 30, 2011

He also served with the Etowah County Sheriff's Office before retirement.

Beyond his years of service, Wayne was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be remembered not only for his dedication to law enforcement and his country, but for the lives he touched along the way.

The Rainbow City Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the Garmon family, his friends, former colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rest easy, Officer Garmon. Thank you for your service to our country, our communities, and the people you dedicated your life to protecting.

Funeral services will be held August 28–29, 2026, at Shoemaker Funeral Home in Blairsville, Pennsylvania. He will be laid to rest at Montevallo National Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama, with military honors.
