Parents of Pre-k kids,
let’s start NOW! 😊
Begin working with your child on independence skills at home to help with basic kindergarten readiness.
Start with:
- Restroom etiquette (wiping, closing the door, not looking under stalls and hand washing).
- Sitting down to eat and practicing how to open containers.
- Recognizing and writing their first name.
- Identifying uppercase and lowercase letters.
- Counting to 20, orally and recognizing numbers 0–10.
- Recognizing basic shapes and colors.
- Holding a pencil correctly.
- Zipping, buttoning, and managing jackets independently.
- Following 2–3 step directions, without you having to repeat it.
- Sitting and listening during short moments of the day. While you’re washing the dishes or cooking, TALK TO THEM, have a real conversation.
- Remind them to use kind words and how to keep their hands to themselves.
From one mama to another, I can promise you that building their independence NOW will make a big difference later. Practicing these simple skills, daily, will help build their confidence and ensure they are ready for kindergarten.
You can thank me later 😘l
