๐Ÿ“šโœจ Happy Birthday, Joyce Carol Oates! โœจ๐Ÿ“š

Today we celebrate the birthday of Joyce Carol Oates, born June 16, 1938.

Oates has authored dozens of novels, short story collections, essays, poetry collections, and works of nonfiction over a career spanning more than six decades.

She is known for exploring themes of identity, family, resilience, and the complexities of American life. Some of her best-known works include We Were the Mulvaneys, Blonde, and Because It Is Bitter, and Because It Is My Heart.

Fun Fact:
๐Ÿ“– Joyce Carol Oates began writing at a young age after receiving a typewriter from her grandmother, and she has gone on to become one of the most honored authors in contemporary American literature.

Her words remind us of the power of reading and storytelling:

โ€œReading is the sole means by which we slip, involuntarily, often helplessly, into anotherโ€™s skin.โ€

๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ“š World Oceans Day ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŒŠ

Today we celebrate World Oceans Day and the incredible oceans that connect our planet, support countless species, and inspire curiosity and discovery.

From colorful coral reefs and mysterious deep-sea creatures to coastal communities and maritime history, the ocean has long captured the imagination of readers, explorers, and scientists alike.

Did you know?
๐ŸŒŽ The ocean covers more than 70% of Earthโ€™s surface.
๐Ÿ‹ It produces over half of the oxygen we breathe.
๐ŸŒŠ Much of the ocean remains unexplored.

World Oceans Day is a reminder that even small actions can help protect our waterways and marine environments for future generations.

Looking for an ocean-themed read? Stop by the library and explore books about marine life, ocean exploration, coastal history, and underwater adventures for readers of all ages.

๐Ÿ“– โ€œThe sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.โ€ โ€” Jacques Cousteau
