Neel Help Paying Your Electric Bills? Join us for our special LIHEAP Cooling Season Walk-In Days! Eligible low-income residents who have not yet received cooling assistance this season are welcome to come!

Our team is ready and eager to serve as many families as our funding allows. No appointments are needed for these two days, just walk in!

🗓️ When: September 15 & 16, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm
📍 Where: 900 38th St N, Birmingham, AL 35222

What to Bring (Required Checklist)
Because this is a walk-in event, lines may be long, so please be prepared to wait. To help our team process your application smoothly and quickly, you must bring all required documents with you.

✅️ Original Social Security Cards: Required for everyone living in your household (copies will NOT be accepted).
✅️Current Alabama Picture ID: For the head of household (and spouse, if applicable). Please check your expiration date before coming!
✅️Current Unpaid Original Power Bill: Must be in the head of household or spouse’s name only. (If the bill is in your landlord's name, you must provide a rental agreement or letter).
✅️Proof of Gross Income for the PREVIOUS MONTH: Required for ALL persons living in the household. This includes check stubs from employers, Social Security, SSI, pensions, unemployment, VA benefits, child support, TANF, child Social Security/SSI, or any other income source. (Note: Bank statements and NACOLG income will not be accepted).
✅️Declaration of Household Income Form: Required for all household members ages 18 and older who had no income in the previous month.
✅️Proof of Custody: Non-parental guardians must provide official documentation from the Court or DHR showing current permanent or temporary custody of children in the household.
✅️Lease & Voucher (If Applicable): If you live in reduced-income housing (Public Housing, Section 8, or any income-based housing), you must bring your lease and housing choice voucher.

Happy 40th "Caanealversary" to Haven, our Community Services Director!

If you’ve ever walked through the doors of our Community Action agency, chances are high you’ve run into her. Whether you're a client or a community partner, Haven has likely lent you a helping hand, anwered your questions, or brightened your day.

Her official job title barely scratches the surface of what she does for CAANEAL. Around here, she wears many hats: Chaos Coordinator, Miracle Worker, unofficial therapist, and the heart and soul of our team. No matter how busy her day gets, her door is always wide open whenever someone needs advice, support, or just a moment of her time. Haven holds our agency together in ways we appreciate every single day.

We truly couldn’t fulfill our mission without her dedication, heart, and endless service.
