Guess whooooo… hosted an amazing event on owls?! Coats Public Library! On June 9th they hosted a North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores: Owl Pellets event providing an exciting and educational experience for curious minds of all ages.

Families in Harnett County came to Coats Public Library to learn the secrets of owl pellets and meet (16-year-old, Easten Screech Owl) Bolt!

A big shout-out to Jessica Fisher (Library Program Specialist), North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, and all the support from the rest of the Coats Library Staff to help make this event happen!

Forsyth County Central Library's Keep NC Weird with Liz Pardue event on June 3 drew a large crowd and was an incredible experience!

The event was truly amazing, as over 300 attendees came to Forsyth County Central Library for an hour of lively exploration of the bizarre, macabre, and delightfully peculiar stories that make North Carolina unforgettable. Liz even mentioned several spooky folklore stories that you can find on our online resource NCpedia!

A big shout-out to Nan La Rosee (Assistant Library Director), Liz Pardue, and everyone else involved in bringing this experience alive to NC residents in Forsyth County.

Thank you to everyone who came out today for the Native Plants for Birds event! We learned a lot about how important native plants are for birds and insects, and also learned a few design tips for enhancing curb appeal for native plant gardens. This was a collaboration between the Library of NC's Government and Heritage Library, the NC Wildlife Resources Commission, and the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.

Last week, the Library of NC attended the 2026 NC LIVE Annual Conference!

Our staff hosted an informational table, and our Government & Heritage Librarian, Taylor Wolford, presented alongside Alana Gomez, an educator from the State Archives of North Carolina. Together, they shared practical strategies for engaging youth in civics, government, and North Carolina’s heritage and culture with fellow library professionals.

North Carolina Year Book's were published by the Raleigh News and Observer during the early part of the 20th century. They are excellent resources to find information about past county and state officials, churches, businesses, and more!

The Library of NC's Government & Heritage Library has a collection of these books spanning from 1901-1941 available to view at our library.
