According to Data USA, approximately 875,000 North Carolinians use Spanish as their primary language at home. El Futuro, a community partner of the ABC Commission, provides culturally responsive mental health and substance use services to individuals and families in an environment of healing and hope, specializing in serving Spanish-speaking communities.

As part of National Alcohol Awareness Month, El Futuro will offer a free webinar, entirely in Spanish, tomorrow (April 30) at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom and Facebook (link to register in comments). The webinar will discuss the relationship between alcohol and mental health, the impact of alcohol on academic performance, and provide clear, practical, and culturally relevant information that attendees can apply at home. Click the link in the comments if you’d like to attend, and please help us spread the word about this great opportunity.

There's a lot happening throughout North Carolina during Alcohol Awareness Month. One of the ABC Commission's proud partners, Wake Monarch Academy, hosted its annual Recovery Golf Classic last week, and we were honored to participate. Wake Monarch Academy is a high school in Raleigh that provides a recovery-based environment for students to successfully pursue academic, personal, and professional goals. All proceeds from the tournament directly support these incredible students. Hear directly from the students in a recent webinar hosted by Talk it Out NC and the ABC Commission. Alcohol Awareness Month is the perfect time to spotlight the Commission’s partners across state government. The Governor’s Highway Safety Program (GHSP) is an initiative of the Department of Transportation that works to reduce traffic crashes in NC and promote highway safety awareness through a variety of grants and safe-driving programs. If you’ve been to the NC State Fair in recent years, you may have seen this partnership in action. Each year, the ABC’s Underage Drinking Prevention campaign, Talk it Out NC, participates with other state agencies and law enforcement partners in GHSP’s fun and educational Safety City.
