Library of North Carolina's Accessible Books & Library Services invites you to a free Tactile Tour at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences!

Tactile tours are an accessible experience designed for blind and low-vision individuals to explore the museum through touch, sound, and close-up inspection.

Registration is available for April 22 and April 28.

This year's Braille challenge was amazing! In mid-February the State Library of NC Accessible Books & Library Services and the Governor Morehead School teamed up to host the 2026 Eastern NC Braille Challenge. Every contestant was truly astounding! A special thanks to everyone involved in making this event happen!

The State Library of North Carolina, a division of DNCR, would like to congratulate our Accessible Books & Library Services Patron Support Assistant, Tawanda Walters!

On February 9th, Tawanda received the inaugural Secretary's Award for Excellence, the department’s highest honor in acknowledgement of outstanding, excellent, and sometimes formidable work. Through her work in public service she has ensured equitable access to reading resources for people with print disabilities.

As highlighted: “She truly embodies the spirit of public service through her unwavering commitment to the patrons served at SLNC ABLS.” Her impact is profound, and a colleague noted “her firsthand experience with vision loss enables her to assist patrons with empathy.”

SLNC Accessible Books and Library Services provided an amazing Accessible Planetarium event, hosted by The NC Museum of Natural Sciences at Contentnea Creek!
