What an incredible evening celebrating Lou Gehrig Day and raising awareness for ALS.

We were honored to see our Wake Forest patient, Scotty Easter, throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Philly game, representing the strength, courage, and resilience of the ALS community.

Moments like these help shine a spotlight on ALS, honor those living with the disease, and inspire hope for a future without ALS. Thank you to ALS United Mid-Atlantic for helping make this special recognition possible and for your continued commitment to the ALS community.

Please join us in congratulating Scotty on this memorable experience and in continuing to raise awareness for everyone affected by ALS.

Today, on Lou Gehrig Day, we honor the legacy of the baseball legend whose name became forever linked with ALS—and we stand with every person and family facing this disease.

More than 80 years later, the ALS community is still fighting for better treatments, stronger research, improved access to care, and policies that reflect the urgency families face every day.

That work depends on action.

Today, we invite you to honor Lou Gehrig’s legacy by contacting your members of Congress through ALS United’s advocacy action alerts page.

We’re excited to officially welcome Isobel DeRusha to the ALS United North Carolina team as our new Director of Development – West!

Isobel joined our team on May 18 and brings a wealth of experience in fundraising, donor engagement, peer-to-peer campaigns, special events, and strategic partnership development within the nonprofit sector.

Throughout her career, Isobel has led impactful fundraising initiatives, including national walks, marathons, galas, golf tournaments, corporate partnerships, and donor engagement programs—all focused on strengthening mission-driven organizations and making a meaningful difference in the communities they serve.
Her passion for building relationships and advancing causes that create lasting impact makes her a wonderful addition to ALS United North Carolina as we continue supporting people living with ALS and funding critical care, advocacy, and research.

When she’s not working, Isobel enjoys reading, working out, swimming, trying her hand at gardening, and baking sourdough. She lives in Matthews with her husband, Craig, and is a proud mom of two.

Please join us in giving Isobel a warm welcome to the team!
