erved that many common values bind us. People want affordable, accessible health care, quality and affordable education, safe air to breathe, clean water to drink, and a fair paycheck. Most of all, they want their children to live a more prosperous life than they have. Sydney decided to run because she wants to make a difference for those people who feel stressed and work with them through our common shared values to make a better Wake County. There's no doubt that the challenges facing us are great. However, so is our will. She humbly asks for your support.

Happy Juneteenth! On this day in 1865, the last enslaved African Americans were freed in Galveston, Texas— 2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Lincoln. 250,000 people were not notified of their freedom until this day. Today, we’re taking the time to reflect on our history and celebrate freedom & Black culture.

Today marks the 1000th day since NC Republicans passed a budget for our state. Our state is operating on a budget that was passed in 2023, but North Carolinians are facing 2026 costs and problems.

The Republican majority should have passed a state budget when it was due 353 days ago. Our teachers and state employees still haven’t gotten raises, seniors are choosing between their rent and prescriptions, and North Carolina families are still overwhelmed by rising costs. Each day that Republicans fail to pass a budget is a day that they fail to deliver for North Carolinians. We must pass a budget that provides relief and funds the essential services that allow our state to thrive.

This week in the NC legislature, HB 958, or Election Law Changes, will be fast-tracked to significantly change our election laws.

Changes to our elections should never be rushed through our legislative process, especially when NC Republicans are 350 days late on passing a state budget. State employees are living paycheck to paycheck, seniors are deciding between prescriptions and rent, and every North Carolinian is feeling the effects of higher prices. Instead of addressing the critical needs of our state, they are focused on rigging the game in their favor.

As North Carolinians, we value our free and fair democratic process. Everyone deserves to have a say in our legislative process. No political agenda or rushed bill should threaten that.

We encourage you to make your voice heard by filling out the HB 958 public comment form. Legislators, no matter which party, should never lead without their constituents in mind. Let Republicans know that North Carolinians do not support rushed election overhauls.

The House Election Committee is accepting comments on the proposed committee substitute for House Bill 958, Election Law Changes.

The legislature and our courts work together to shape the future of communities across North Carolina. That’s why it’s so important that every voter makes their voice heard by voting all the way down the ballot!

Last night was an incredible evening of support for the NC Senate Democratic Caucus, and I was grateful to stand alongside my friend Pete Buttigieg.
As we pass day 300 without a state budget, teachers and state officials are still living on 2023 income while facing 2026 expenses. That reality makes it even more meaningful to have voices like Pete’s lifting up North Carolina.
Grateful for the support and proud to keep fighting for a better future for North Carolina.

North Carolina deserves a budget and we have a plan on the table. With just six Senate Republicans joining Senate Democrats, we can negotiate and pass a budget that moves our state forward. It’s time. Make your voice heard and urge Republican legislators to act in this new session.

This Women’s History Month, I’m reflecting on the truth that women have always led, even when they weren’t invited into the room.�From Ann Atwater to Sarah Keys Evans to Harriet Morehead Berry, their courage shaped the North Carolina we know today.Now it’s on us to keep pushing doors open to ensure the next generation doesn’t have to fight as hard to be heard.
We don’t need to ask if women can lead. We already do.�The question is: will we make space for more of us to lead?
