The Wake Technical Community College English Department is proud of its history of academic excellence. Long before College Transfer came on the scene in 1990, our department provided vocational and technical students the communications skills they would need for their careers in “the real world.” We continue to do so. And, of course, we prepare our College Transfer students for the academic chall

enges they will face in a four-year institution. The most recent data show that our students who transfer to University of North Carolina system schools perform better than students who begin as freshman in those schools. This achievement speaks volumes about the quality of instruction in our department. We have well-trained, dedicated faculty who work hard to uphold academic standards. While students may sometimes lament the fact that an English instructor seems “too hard,” this rigorousness is actually a good thing for students.
