DHFD R5 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Creedmoor Rd today alongside . Crews arrived to find one patient pinned inside the vehicle. R5 personnel quickly went to work and successfully extricated the patient in under 6 minutes.

This past weekend, 10 of our volunteer members successfully completed Rookie School at the Fire Training Center!

Over the course of two weekends and an additional Saturday, they trained on essential firefighting skills, including live fire exercises, building on months of foundational training at the station.

While there’s still a long road ahead, this milestone marks a huge step in preparing them to serve our community. We are incredibly proud of their dedication, hard work, and commitment to the fire service. 👏

🎃 The Pumpkin Patch is Open! 🎃

It’s that time of year again - the Durham Highway Fire Department Pumpkin Patch is officially open! Come explore thousands of pumpkins, grab mums while they last, and enjoy the perfect fall photo spot. 🍂

Special Community Events This Year:
🚒 Extrication Demonstration – October 18th at 1:00 PM. Watch our firefighters use real extrication tools to simulate rescuing a victim from a vehicle accident.
🏠 Open House – October 25th from 1:00–5:00 PM. Bring the family to tour our trucks, meet your firefighters, and enjoy light refreshments.

💡 A Huge THANK YOU to Boy Scout Troops 399 and 28 who came out early on a rainy Saturday morning to help us unload over 33,000 lbs of pumpkins. We couldn’t have done it without your hard work and dedication! 👏👏

At approximately 2:30 AM, Rescue 5 was dispatched to a working fire in a middle-unit townhome. Durham Engine 17 arrived first on scene and confirmed a working fire.

Rescue 5 was assigned to conduct primary search operations and check for fire extension into the neighboring townhomes. Thanks to quick action by all crews, fire damage was contained to the primary residence.
