NEW PUBLIC LAW. On 28 April 2020, Public Law 116-140 (H.R. 6322) was signed into law. Titled the "Student Veteran Coronavirus Response Act of 2020", this bill authorizes the VA to continue payments to students whose
institutions were closed due to the COVID-19 emergency.

For the purposes of this bill, the emergency period runs from March 1 - December 21, 2020. A summary of the impacts of this law are as follows;

-Students who are on VA work-study can continue to receive payments after their school closes.

-Students using MGIB-AD, MGIB-SR, or Post-9/11 may also continue receiving payments for up to 4 weeks after the school closes (payments will not be charged against the student's 36 months of entitlement).

-Delimiting dates will be extended for the amount of time the school was closed and the student was unable to continue classes either in person or online.

APT EXTENSION. A 12 month extension is authorized for Soldiers and civilians who have a Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) and/or Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) expiring and have their annual testing rescheduled or cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The extension of FLPB at current levels is not automatic and new orders must be published.
