Certain North Carolina counties have been in the news lately, for suspected election fraud involving absentee ballots in the 2018 election.

The County Chairs Association today elected new officers. The following are all county chairs who now are also officers of the County Chairs Association:

President: Richard Poole, New Hanover County
Executive VP: Jane Whitley, Mecklenburg County
Eastern VP: Jimmy Cochran, Lenoir County
Piedmont VP: Eric Ellison, Forsythe County
Western VP: Mark Vitrone, Burke County
Secretary: Jeff Rose, Buncombe County
Treasurer: John Kirkman, Lee County

The new officers all want to use the County Chairs Association to ensure that all county organizations excel. Thanks to all who participated.

Also, the SEC amended the Plan of Organization to make the Association a permanent part of the NCDP, and to make the President of the County Chairs Association an ex officio voting member of the Officers of the NCDP.

The DNC is getting serious about supporting state and local parties. In NCDP this is expected to include a program of grants to county parties. The details on the NCDP program have not yet been hashed out.

The Democratic National Committee is launching a State Partnership Program to deliver brick-and-mortar rebuilding of local parties that shriveled in the Obama years.

There will be an important training for County Officers during the day of the Unity Dinner on July 15. This is highly recommended for new officers of county parties. I hope to have details to post tomorrow or the day after. Sorry for the late notice, but we have been waiting on NCDP staff.

Greetings!

This is my first post as the Acting President of the Association of Democratic Party Chairs. Like you I have been busy since February organizing precincts and preparing for our convention and election of officers.

Our precinct organization went great. We organized 41 out of 43 precincts in New Hanover County and we are still working on the last two. In 2016 we organized 31, which has been typical in recent years, so 41 is a big improvement. Sustaining fund collections also were very successful and we paid our share early. How did your county fare.

We have had a wave of engagement with the party and a lot of people expressing interest in running for office, most of them with no prior experience. We need quality training for these folks, and I have been working since January to line up some training in Southeast North Carolina. So far I have had no luck with that. I recently learned about the training opportunity below by the PCCC on May 13 and 14, so I am passing it along.

To my fellow county chairs: How do you assess the need for candidate training in your county? Are the opportunities available sufficient?
