ASC staff and state service commission leaders enjoyed spending the past two days engaged in dialogue and learning labs at the event “When Communities Need Us Most: Empowering AmeriCorps Partners to Lead in Times Crisis” hosted by AmeriCorps and American University.

The past two days are an important reminder of the critical role state service commissions and national service programs play in disaster response and addressing pressing community needs.

☀️ 12 weeks of summer means 12 chances to make a difference.

This summer, consider adopting a Meals on Wheels route for the 12 weeks of summer (or even a few of them!). 🚗💙 It’s a meaningful way for families, businesses, churches, civic groups, and friends to give back together while making sure homebound seniors receive nutritious meals and friendly visits.

Just a couple of hours around lunchtime can make a lasting impact for someone counting on us.

Can your group adopt a route this summer? Learn more and sign up on our website. Link in bio for the jump.

🩵 Looking for a meaningful way to give back? 🩵

Join us at Open Table Ministry and be part of a community that shows up for our unsheltered neighbors with compassion, dignity, and care.

Whether you’re helping sort clothing at the Free Store, serving during outreach, assisting with showers alongside Fresh Start Durham, or simply offering a warm smile and conversation — every act of kindness matters.

You don’t have to change the whole world to make a difference in someone’s day. Sometimes hope looks like clean clothes, a hot shower, a meal, or knowing someone remembers your name.

If you’ve been looking for a place to serve, we’d love to have you join us on an upcoming Tuesday for our Free Store, or ask us how you might be able to get involved volunteering during our “Office Hours” during the week. Come be part of the work of building a more compassionate Durham. 🩵🧡💛🫶🏼

Floodwater doesn’t just ruin carpets, it ruins paperwork. Do a quick scan of your important documents (insurance, IDs, deeds or rental agreements) and save them to a secure cloud or a waterproof USB drive. Add an extra copy of the documents to your emergency kit for safe keeping. It’s one less thing to worry about if you have to leave quickly.
