Last week, C.O.R.E. volunteers joined staff from the North Carolina Departments of Adult Correction and Public Safety to help educators prepare their classrooms for a new school year.

This cross-agency collaboration was about more than arranging desks and organizing supplies. It was about showing teachers, students and families that their communities are standing beside them.

As some schools welcomed students back today, we wish every educator, student and family a safe, successful and inspiring school year. When we work together, our schools and communities grow stronger.

Our seniors have spent a lifetime building families, strengthening communities and sharing wisdom that continues to guide us.

On National Senior Citizens Day, let’s honor them with more than our words. Check in, offer a helping hand, share a meal or simply take the time to listen. Small acts of care can remind someone that they are seen, valued and never alone.
