The State Board of Education today created a firestorm by claiming for itself the power to withhold funding for new public charter schools, in apparent contravention of state law. All this is happening with 77,000+ student names on charter school waitlists around the state.

North Carolina NEEDS another natural gas pipeline because we rely on just one for our entire supply right now.

The Cooper Administration will soon review a permit application for the MVP-Southgate pipeline, but it's hard to trust they'll consider the application faithfully.

In 2020, DEQ’s staff expert recommended approving MVP-Southgate pipeline permit. Instead, the agency denied the permit. Another permit review is coming soon. Recent history gives little hope the Cooper Administration will consider the application faithfully. Nobody disputes these facts: Natural

A natural gas pipeline to carry critical supply to one of the nation’s fastest-growing states needs a permit from the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), and Gov. Roy Cooper is injecting his donor-backed agenda into what should be a straightforward bureaucratic process.

Sound familiar?

Just three years after the News & Observer called for an investigation of Cooper’s pipeline permitting involvement, he’s now inserting himself into the Mountain Valley Pipeline-Southgate project.

New data shows North Carolina K-3 students are outpacing the national average in reading gains, likely because of new literacy policies spearheaded by Senate Leader Phil Berger.

Here's the story of how raw spite withheld those policies for two years.

Raw spite may have delayed progress for two years   Eleven years ago, in the infancy of Republican rule at the General Assembly, Senate Leader Phil Berger put a marker down: His personal policy focus would be early childhood literacy, specifically third grade reading achievement. At his

The Left has predicted tax cuts will bring doom and gloom for a decade now.

Why should anybody expect them to be right this time?

How many times have rabble-rousers on the Left talked about how bad life will be in North Carolina if the Reform Majority in the legislature cuts taxes? With the success story tax reform has brought to our state, one would think that after making these doomsday declarations time and again they even

Voter ID is a key element of coming election reforms. A quick look at how much money liberals poured into the 2018 statewide ballot referendum campaign to defeat the Voter ID law shows how much they wanted to stop it.

The amounts were staggering.

In Opposition: two main groups called By the People and Stop Deceptive Amendments contributed to the effort that spent $9,181,863.

In Support: A group called NC Voter ID PAC that spent only $655,189.

Contributors to the opposition groups included the Open Society Policy Center, one of the George Soros groups; the National Education Foundation; and America Votes, a group organized, according to its IRS filing, “to coordinate and promote progressive issues, policies, initiatives and referenda.”

In spite of the overwhelming $8+ million funding advantage by the Left, the Voter ID referendum passed with flying colors – with over 55% of North Carolina voters supporting Voter ID.

Must have been a good idea.

It took them a while to get there, but UNC's School of Medicine looks to have finally reversed its policies premising career advancement on social justice activism.

In a victory for academic freedom, UNC Chapel Hill announced its decision to not implement recommendations that would condition tenure and promotion on faculty commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

What in the world has happened to UNC?

In an open letter published just days ago, 677 UNC faculty lambasted a proposed bill, HB 96, to require UNC System students to take one single class in American history and government before graduation.

The faculty called the class, which would cover the Declaration of Independence and Gettysburg Address, "ideological force-feeding."

Faculty up in arms because proposed American history class requires students to read core American documents   What has our flagship public university become?   We’ve written these past few months about some concerning trends at UNC System schools. But none inspire as much

OOF, take a look at this. Bodycam footage was recently released showing Raleigh police planning their arrest of Reopen NC protestors at a 2020 rally.

A police captain orders officers to wear “PPE” to "back up the claim" of a public health hazard...despite no officers wearing any PPE prior to arresting the protestors.

COVID may be largely behind us, but these are important facts to remember if and when government considers lockdown orders again.

RALEIGH — Footage posted online by an independent journalist shows police in Raleigh discussing tactics for arresting ReOpen NC protesters in 2020 as well as joking about COVID-19 PPE use to “support” the idea the protest was a “public health hazard.” Independent journalist Stephen Horn tw...

There are many reasons a parent may decide to move a child from a public school to a private school. Academic performance is of course important, but we submit that a child’s happiness is just as important.

A child may not fit into the culture of his or her zoned school. A bad experience with persistent bullying, or a slate of teachers to whom the child just doesn’t respond, can all contribute negatively to a child’s mental health.

Those children, especially if they have difficult circumstances at home compounding the problem, deserve another option in their schooling.

“The congruence of results strongly supports a causal link between school choice programs and improved mental health” Both the Senate and House have introduced legislation, called “Choose Your School, Choose Your Future,” to dramatically expand Opportunity Scholarships. The program offers ta...

The desire to give a child a private education exists in families at all income levels. But until recently, only the well-to-do could act on that desire.

Opportunity Scholarships fix that basic unfairness. They’re taxpayer-funded grants that families can use to cover some or all of the tuition costs at a private K-12 school.

Two weeks ago, Sens. Michael Lee (R-New Hanover), Amy Galey (R-Alamance), and Lisa Barnes (R-Nash) introduced S. 406, “Choose Your School, Choose Your Future.”

The bill would increase the scholarship amount for families earning below a certain income level. It would also make Opportunity Scholarships available to all North Carolina families, with the maximum grant decreasing for families earning higher incomes.

Poor kids deserve the same educational freedom as rich kids S. 406 would provide scholarships for private school on an income-based scale The desire to give a child a private education exists in families at all income levels. But until recently, only the well-to-do could act on that desire. Op
