🖤 Happy Friday from the Frederick Douglass Foundation of North Carolina!
As we count down to our Juneteenth Celebration, we invite you to reflect on an important moment in American history:
📍 Galveston, Texas — June 19, 1865.
More than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, Union Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston with Union troops and issued General Order No. 3, announcing that enslaved African Americans in Texas were free.
Juneteenth commemorates this historic moment when the promise of freedom finally reached those who had remained enslaved. It is a story of perseverance, hope, and the enduring pursuit of liberty.
At the Frederick Douglass Foundation, we believe history should be remembered, taught, and celebrated. Understanding where we have been helps us better appreciate the freedoms we enjoy today and inspires us to continue building a future rooted in faith, freedom, and opportunity.
✨️ Follow our page each week as we continue sharing the history behind Juneteenth and why this important celebration still matters today. Head to our website today and join our newsletter to stay up to date on all upcoming events and meet and greets near you!
