We’re so proud to celebrate a special first for the Catholic Charities network!

Daniel Altenau, Director of Communications and Disaster Services, and Emilie Hart, Cape Fear Regional Director, are the first two individuals across the Catholic Charities USA network certified to present the newly updated Essentials for Disaster Case Managers curriculum.

This milestone reflects nearly a decade of experience Daniel and Emilie have built walking alongside communities after disasters, training others to do the same, and helping strengthen local preparedness before the next emergency ever happens.

Every gift to Catholic Charities reflects a shared commitment to serving neighbors with compassion, dignity, and hope.

Last week, Katey Fithian, Chief Development Officer, and Tyffanie Paganello, Development Coordinator, joined fellow Catholic Charities development professionals in Charlotte for the Catholic Charities USA Funding for the Future Regional Convening.

Together, they shared ideas and explored new ways to strengthen relationships with donors and build lasting support for the work Catholic Charities carries out in communities every day.

We were grateful to join parish staff from across the Diocese of Raleigh for a day of prayer, fellowship, and appreciation at Cardinal Gibbons High School, Raleigh, NC last week. Lisa Perkins, Barkley Sample, and Youth Ambassador Josie enjoyed connecting with those who serve so faithfully and sharing how we provide help and create hope throughout our community.

And for lunch, we were treated to delicious options from our social enterprise food truck, Savor Raleigh 💜

For our Catholic Charities office in the Cape Fear region, breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day.

At least it will be on Sept. 10 at our Rise & Dine fundraiser breakfast. Every ticket purchased or table sponsored helps us continue creating hope for our neighbors who lack access to healthy food, basic services like a place to do their laundry, or recovery assistance after a tragic disaster.

Our volunteers show up in the heat, cold and rain to serve our seniors monthly with laughter, warmth and dedication to make sure the line moves fast. Many of our seniors feel alone and forgotten but what I notice from our volunteers is the compassion they have for them, listening to their stories, praying with them and following up with them from what might have been said to them the month before. I hear many of our seniors say, “I love you and look forward to seeing you next month”.
