We recently held our first-ever community event as Onsite Support Service Coordinator at New Bern Crossings, bringing in a huge crowd of over 100 residents! Children at the affordable housing development were able to receive the items they need to for the new school year and play fun games with each other. With the help of Newkirk's Barbershop, over a dozen kids received free haircuts so they can start the school year of feeling confident and ready to tackle their schoolwork. Families were able to enjoy fresh-off-the-grill hot dogs while learning about all the resources local organizations provide. Wake Relief was also able to distribute 75 bags of food to families so that they can enjoy a yummy meal and good conversation together at the dinner table. Most importantly, amongst all the learning and fun, we were all building community with one another.
We would like to give a special thank you to all the organizations who partnered with us to make this a fun, engaging, and informational community event - UnitedHealthcare, Duke Energy, Passage Home, FIGS of Wake County, Self-Help, Harold Ellis DJ & Events, NC READS, Seasons Village , Newkirk's Barbershop, Wake Relief, StandUp-SpeakOut of NC, Ship Outreach, Amplify Health, Southeast Raleigh YMCA, Wake County Sheriff's Department, and Raleigh Fire Department.
