We recently held our first-ever community event as Onsite Support Service Coordinator at New Bern Crossings, bringing in a huge crowd of over 100 residents! Children at the affordable housing development were able to receive the items they need to for the new school year and play fun games with each other. With the help of Newkirk's Barbershop, over a dozen kids received free haircuts so they can start the school year of feeling confident and ready to tackle their schoolwork. Families were able to enjoy fresh-off-the-grill hot dogs while learning about all the resources local organizations provide. Wake Relief was also able to distribute 75 bags of food to families so that they can enjoy a yummy meal and good conversation together at the dinner table. Most importantly, amongst all the learning and fun, we were all building community with one another.

We would like to give a special thank you to all the organizations who partnered with us to make this a fun, engaging, and informational community event - UnitedHealthcare, Duke Energy, Passage Home, FIGS of Wake County, Self-Help, Harold Ellis DJ & Events, NC READS, Seasons Village , Newkirk's Barbershop, Wake Relief, StandUp-SpeakOut of NC, Ship Outreach, Amplify Health, Southeast Raleigh YMCA, Wake County Sheriff's Department, and Raleigh Fire Department.

Creating or updating your will is a simple way to leave a legacy behind that reflects what matters most to you. You can make an enduring, positive impact on the lives of children and families in Wake County by leaving Families Together a bequest in your will or living trust. A bequest is generally a revocable gift, which means it can be changed or modified at any time.

If you're interested in learning more about creating a lasting impact for our neighbors working towards housing stability, we'd love to start the conversation! Visit our website to learn how your legacy can make a difference for generations of families to come at the link below.

🎒Last weekend, Families Together was busy getting little ones in our community ready for the new school year at our annual Back To School Event - and it was a huge success! Children from families in our program picked out backpacks and went "shopping" for all the items needed to achieve academic success. Families were in good spirits as music played, hot dogs were grilling, and over 20 children are ready to start the school year off on the right foot. Wake Up & Read was also on site during the event to provide books and literary enrichment to kids.📚

🩵We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our generous sponsors who donated supplies – The Jimmy Carroll Foundation, Attindas Hygiene Partners, St. John the Merciful Outreach Ministry, St. Philip Lutheran Church, Raleigh NC, Christ the King Lutheran Church, Duke Energy, and caring community members – and to our incredible partners and volunteers who supported the event and made all the smiles on kids’ faces possible.

Thank you so much to Robert Half employees for coming by our pantry and office to volunteer last week! They lent the extra hands we needed to transport all our school supplies donations from our pantry to our office so we could properly prepare for our big Back To School event. Their help made quick work of a heavy-lifting task and we're so grateful for their time, energy, and support of local children and their families who are getting ready for a new school year.

If you have a group interested in lending their time and skills this summer, please reach out to our Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator, Lucy Jones, at 📧[email protected]

We'd like to say 🫶THANK YOU🫶 to First Cary UMC Youth Group for being a huge help and volunteering at our pantry. The kids had a blast organizing donated household item and school supplies in preparation for our Back To School Event. They also put together some beautiful welcome baskets and picked out books for a new family moving into one of our shelter units. Thank you again, First Cary UMC Youth Group, for giving back to our neighbors and making a difference for local families!
