Early voting sites and schedules for all 100 NC counties are now available in the Early Voting Site search tool on the State Board's website: vt.ncsbe.gov/EVSite/

In-person early voting runs from Oct. 15-31.

North Carolina State Board of Elections Executive Director Sam Hayes issued the following statement after Governor Josh Stein's veto of House Bill 958:

“House Bill 958 contains a number of significant changes to North Carolina’s election laws, including provisions related to voter registration, list maintenance, audits and election administration. While the Governor’s decision on the bill is a matter for the Governor, our office hopes the General Assembly will revisit these provisions later this year.

The State Board’s responsibility is to ensure that our voter rolls are accurate and that every eligible voter can participate while maintaining the security and integrity of our elections. We welcome the opportunity to work with legislators on thoughtful, practical improvements that strengthen those goals.”

North Carolina State Board of Elections Executive Director Sam Hayes issued the following statement after House Bill 834 became law this week.

“I would like to thank the General Assembly for passing House Bill 834, which will strengthen and improve election administration in North Carolina. The changes in this legislation will give elections officials additional time and flexibility to process ballots, address voter issues, and carry out their responsibilities. We appreciate the General Assembly’s continued support of the State Board and look forward to implementing these changes to better serve voters and county boards of elections across North Carolina.”

Day 1 of the North Carolina Summer Elections Conference is underway! We’re kicking off an exciting few days in Greensboro with election officials from across North Carolina coming together to learn, connect, and prepare for the work ahead.

Today’s keynote speaker, Clarence Henderson, shared an inspiring message on leadership and the importance of protecting the freedoms that define our democracy.

This year’s theme, “First in Flight, First in Freedom,” celebrates North Carolina’s pioneering spirit—from the innovation that launched the world’s first powered flight to the enduring freedoms that define our democracy and guide the work of election officials across the state.

FACT CHECK WRAL TV! In reality, the NCSBE requested the legislation to LENGTHEN the time for election administrators and voters to work together to "cure” or fix any ballot issues so provisional ballots can be counted.

The State Board has NEVER asked for a “deadline” to cast provisional ballots to be "shortened " - that isn’t possible because there is no “deadline.”

Provisional ballots are cast by voters who vote in-person, usually because there is some issue with their registration or identification; and county boards decide post election whether they can be counted.

Changes to campaign finance transparency, as well as election audits, voting schedules and ballot challenges, are among the proposals in wide-ranging elections bills that passed the N.C. Senate in a party-line vote.
