🐻 PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE: Bear Encounters in the Town of Lake Lure

The Lake Lure Police Department reminds residents and visitors that black bears are common throughout our area. While bear sightings can be an exciting part of your mountain experience, it is important to remember that these are wild animals and should always be treated with caution and respect.

The Lake Lure Police Department works closely with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission when wildlife-related incidents occur. Your cooperation helps protect both our community and the bears that call these mountains home.

We appreciate your help in keeping Lake Lure safe. By respecting wildlife and following these simple safety practices, everyone can enjoy a safe and memorable visit to our beautiful town.

Attention all Junior Park Rangers! starting today and running all week long, the “What a Ranger Does” Storywalk, written by former Chimney Rock ranger Joe Hiatt, will be displayed along the Great Woodland Adventure trail. It’s a great way to get the kiddos outside on the .4-mile trail while learning all about what rangers do to preserve our public lands.

Plus, join Chimney Rock rangers next Friday, July 31, from 10:00 AM -2:00 PM to celebrate World Ranger Day! This touch-a-truck style program will give you a hands-on look at the gear, training, and daily work that goes into protecting the Park.

At North Carolina State Parks, we know that some of the most meaningful moments happen when a child discovers they belong in the outdoors!

Recently, a young visitor completed the final requirement for her Junior Ranger badge just as the was closing. Unsure if she'd be able to finish the program that day, she was thrilled when Ranger Schafer took the time to meet with her, swear her in, and even help her earn "Expert" status.

According to her family, she spent the entire two-hour drive home talking about the experience and couldn't wait to show off her badge, patch, and certificate at school the next day.

What may have seemed like a small act became a lasting memory for a future park steward. Thank you, Ranger Schafer, for going above and beyond to make a young park enthusiast feel seen, celebrated, and excited about the outdoors. Moments like these help create lifelong park lovers!
