With 850,000+ registered voters, it takes thousands of precinct officials to serve voters across Wake County.

Our team recently had the opportunity to spend time with some of these officials, listen to their feedback, answer questions, and thank them for the essential role they play in making elections possible.

For the 2026 General Election, we'll need 3,500+ precinct officials. We welcome registered Wake County voters to join this dedicated community of public servants.

During Public Service Recognition Week, we’re thankful for the public servants who help military and overseas voters participate in elections through absentee voting.

Our Voter Services & Absentee Team kicked off Public Service Recognition Week with a visit to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, where we attended training with on-base Voting Assistance Officers to learn more about how we can better support military and overseas absentee voters in Wake County. We’re grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with professionals who work every day to help military and overseas voters stay informed and connected to the voting process.

Did you know that May 1 is Law Day?

Election laws set the framework for how elections are conducted – from voter registration to voting site procedures to the certification of results. At the Wake County Board of Elections, we administer elections in accordance with these laws, applying processes consistently, accurately, and transparently.

Serving your community can become a family tradition. 🗳️

This Volunteer Month, we’re celebrating families like the Griffins – three generations connected through their service to Wake County voters as precinct officials.

Their story shows how election work can bring people together, creating shared experiences, strengthening connections, and building community across generations.

Across Wake County, nearly 400 families have relatives who also serve as precinct officials. To the Griffin family and all of our Precinct Officials, thank you for your dedication and service.

🔍 Behind the Scenes at the BOE

Our team has finished packing up election materials, including ballots and pollbooks, for secure retention following the March Primary. We are now focused on inventorying and preparing other supplies ahead of the next election.

Another post-election milestone: nearly 2,000 voter cards were mailed to Wake County voters this week, bringing the total sent since the March Primary to over 20,000.

Even after results are certified, election work continues.

Another key step is now complete:
✅ 71,052 early voting, absentee, and provisional ballots sorted

That’s more than 40% of all ballots cast in Wake County for the 2026 Primary Election.

Over the past 8 days, a team of 20 Wake County election officials has been hard at work preparing voted ballots for secure storage.

ℹ️ As part of the post-election process, county boards of elections must securely retain and store voted ballots by precinct. While Election Day ballots are already sorted (because they are cast in-precinct), ballots cast through other voting methods must be sorted by hand.

This is a significant undertaking, and we’re grateful to the team who made this important step possible.

As we approach statewide canvass next week, the Wake County Board of Elections has completed its post-election process, certifying results during the March 13 county canvass meeting. With the recount and protest deadlines passing earlier this week and no recount or protest filed in Wake County, the results of the March 3 election are official.

The State Board of Elections will conduct statewide canvass on March 25, 2026.
