"Tulsi Gabbard has served her country with uncommon courage and integrity. A combat veteran who deployed to Iraq and Kuwait with the Army National Guard, she entered Congress as a Democrat but refused to toe the party line when it conflicted with the Constitution or America’s national security. She boldly called out the “elitist cabal” dominating her former party, exposed the failures of endless wars, and stood against the weaponization of government against political opponents. As President Trump’s director of National Intelligence, she worked to declassify hidden truths, reform a bloated intelligence community, and put America First.
"Gabbard’s recent resignation, effective June 30, to support her husband through a serious illness, is a reminder of the personal sacrifices so many in public service make. We owe her gratitude for her service and her willingness to put principle above politics.
Now the president has an opportunity to name a successor who combines the same America First instincts with unmatched experience in both national security and the inner workings of the federal government. That man is Congressman-turned-prosecutor Dan Bishop of North Carolina.
"Bishop is no stranger to the fight for constitutional government. As a member of the House Freedom Caucus, he was one of its most effective voices — a steadfast defender of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and individual liberty. He has been particularly resolute in protecting the Fourth Amendment against the surveillance state. Bishop consistently opposed the warrantless surveillance provisions of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).
"He was one of just 19 House Republicans who voted against advancing a clean reauthorization in 2024 and signed bipartisan letters demanding privacy protections and standalone votes on reforms. In fact, on March 18, 2024, Bishop was explicitly listed as a signer of this bipartisan letter that demanded a standalone bill and floor votes on privacy reforms rather than a rushed “clean” reauthorization. This bravery underscores his commitment to the United States Constitution and the Fourth Amendment.
"Dan Bishop understands that national security and constitutional rights are not mutually exclusive — we can protect America from foreign threats without turning the Intelligence Community into a domestic spying apparatus aimed at American citizens.
"Bishop’s commitment to the president’s agenda has been unwavering. No one delivered more devastating cross-examinations of former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas than Bishop. In hearing after hearing, he exposed the deadly consequences of open-border policies with precision and moral clarity. His questioning laid bare the human cost of Mayorkas’s failures — the drugs, the crime, the chaos — and made clear that immigration enforcement is national security enforcement. Bishop didn’t just talk; he fought relentlessly for the president’s immigration priorities while serving as one of the Freedom Caucus’s most effective operators.
"His executive experience is equally impressive. After leaving Congress, Bishop was confirmed as deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget, where he gained unparalleled insight into the federal bureaucracy’s budget, operations, and dysfunction. He understands how Washington really works — and how to make it work for the American people rather than against them. Just last week, the Senate confirmed him as United States attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina, giving the Tar Heel State a fearless prosecutor committed to the rule of law.
"In recent years, it has not been uncommon for former members of Congress to step into the role of Director of National Intelligence. Before Tulsi Gabbard was appointed, John Ratcliffe served effectively as President Trump’s DNI during the final months of his first administration. But because of Bishop’s executive experience at OMB and his proven leadership in maximizing national security while protecting the Fourth Amendment, Dan Bishop stands as the strongest candidate for the position.
"Appointing Bishop as director of National Intelligence would be North Carolina’s short-term loss but America’s long-term gain. His deep knowledge of federal operations, his proven record defending the Constitution, and his ironclad loyalty to the president’s agenda make him the ideal leader to pick up where Tulsi Gabbard left off.
In my judgment, Dan Bishop should have been named United States attorney general from the beginning — but the Intelligence Community needs his steady hand and constitutional convictions right now.
"The president has many qualified candidates. None, however, brings the unique combination of legislative combat experience, executive expertise, and unwavering commitment to both national security and the Bill of Rights that Dan Bishop offers. This is the moment to choose substance over optics and put a proven fighter in the most sensitive national security post in the government.
For North Carolina, for America, and for the United States Constitution, Dan Bishop as director of National Intelligence would be a win-win for all." - Don Brown

Gabbard has served her country with uncommon courage and integrity. Here is the right man to take the torch from her.
