SAFEchild is the only child abuse prevention agency in Wake County working directly with families. SAFEchild offers parent education and support services to families to prevent abuse and neglect, and changes the long-term effects of abuse if it has occurred. SAFEchild has two locations in Raleigh: 864 West Morgan Street and the SAFEchild Advocacy Center at 2815 Kidd Road.

This week in our BABY class at SAFEchild, we focused on mom’s mental health!

Led by therapist Hal Barcus of Anchor Perinatal Wellness, caregivers learned how perinatal mental health challenges can impact daily life. We discussed how to recognize symptoms, which can include anxiety, persistent sadness, irritability, trouble sleeping (beyond typical newborn exhaustion), feelings of overwhelm, or difficulty bonding with your baby.

At SAFEchild, our free BABY program is designed to support the whole family. Because when caregivers are supported and healthy, children are safer, stronger and better able to thrive.

This Maternal Health Month, we’re reminded that caring for children starts with caring for parents!
At SAFEchild, we know the postpartum period can be both joyful and overwhelming! That’s why we offer BABY, a 10-week class designed for parents and caregivers with infants under 15 months.

Through children’s literature, BABY explores life after birth while strengthening the bond between you and your baby. Each Wednesday evening, participants build community, gain practical tools, and prioritize self-care.

We are feeling extra warm and fuzzy after this incredible gift! Look at all of these cozy comfort capes just donated to SAFEchild. Every child who visits our advocacy center gets to pick out a cape to take home with them.

A big shoutout to Kiara and Thales Academy along with Citizens Assisting Police in Apex who helped craft over 80 capes. We know these will provide many children comfort and hope during a challenging time.
