The incarceration of a parent is a traumatic experience for a child. A report released by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (2008) states that over 1.7 million children under the age of 18 had a parent in a state or federal prison. An adjustment so critical to development confirms the need for support, guidance, and empathy. GRIPP intends to provide this by servicing children and families of incarc

erated parents with special emphasis in reunification. We believe that a relationship with an incarcerated parent is better than one that is nonexistent. It can also reduce the likelihood of generational incarceration thus generating more productive citizens.
