We kicked off our journey exploring the beautiful waters of Merchants Millpond State Park in Gatesville, NC. A massive shoutout to the incredible Park Rangers who guided our canoe trip and taught us all about the local wildlife! 🦅🐢

Next up, we visited Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) and wow—we were absolutely blown away! While it’s a tight-knit campus of about 2,400 students, they are doing massive things. As an NC Promise school, tuition is only $500 a semester, but the opportunities they offer are priceless.

A huge thank you to Nicholas Lenczycki, Director of Operations - Aviation, for the incredible tour of their Aviation Science Program! We got an insider look at:
🛸 Unmanned Aircraft Systems (yes, we actually got to fly drones!)
🛠️ Engineering Technologies
🚨 Air Traffic Control & Emergency Management
🛩️ Commercial Piloting (we even visited the airport and sat in the cockpits!)

It was a super hot day, but we wrapped it up the best way possible—cooling down with some delicious treats at Meadows Frozen Custard🍦☀️ What an unforgettable day!

Our students dove headfirst into the world of engineering with two amazing mentors from NC State University.

First, we wired up with Rachel Baker, a Doctoral Student in Electrical Engineering. The students got their hands dirty building circuits on breadboards, practicing their soldering skills, and exploring the endless career possibilities in the field! 🔌🛠️

Next, we shifted gears into the future of medicine with Abby Caine, a Regenerative Medicine Doctoral Student from the Joint Biomedical Engineering Department. Our group got to experiment with hydrogels and learn the mind-blowing science behind how biomedical engineers are actually growing human tissues! 🧫🧬

A huge thank you to Rachel and Abby for inspiring our future innovators! 🐺❤️

What an incredible Day 3 of our Summer Session Two! ☀️ We packed the day with smart tech, future-prep, and a little bit of nature.

Here is a quick recap of what our amazing students got up to:

🤖 Navigating the AI World: We kicked things off with Tuva Rocco, a Doctoral Student in the NC State Computer Science Department. Tuva showed us how to leverage AI to supercharge our organizational skills, while also teaching us the crucial things to keep in mind and watch out for when using these tools.

🎓 Preparing for College Success: Next, we hosted Sharon Ruebesam and Diamond Outlaw from the NCSU Disability Resource Center. They walked our students through how to secure accommodations in college and shared essential insights on how these services differ from high school to university life.

🐜 Bugging Out! We wrapped up our afternoon with Esme Chita, an NCSU Entomology Graduate Student, who gave us a fascinating look into the insect world, teaching us how to identify different bugs and understand their unique differences.

It was a jam-packed, inspiring day of learning, growth, and discovery. We are so proud of our students and incredibly grateful to our wonderful guest speakers! ❤️🐺

We spent the day learning, growing, and getting inspired by some truly phenomenal guest speakers. Here is a look at how we spent our day:

💻 Decoding Cybersecurity: We kicked off the morning with Madison Thomas, a Doctoral Student in the NCSU Computer Science Department. Madison guided us through the fascinating world of ciphers, showed us how to spot security threats, and opened our eyes to some amazing career opportunities in tech!

💼 Navigating Career Success: Next, we teamed up with Sidney Fletcher and Misa Wells from the NCSU Career Center. They gave us the ultimate blueprint on essential career skills, explained how college career services set students up for success, and introduced us to the game-changing One Pack Empowerment Program at NCSU.

🌱 Self-Advocacy & Well-Being: After lunch, we connected with Dr. Domonique Carter, Wellness and Engagement Manager for the NCSU Engineering Department. Dr. Carter shared vital advice on how to advocate for ourselves and locate the key resources needed to truly thrive in a college environment.

🧪 Overcoming Obstacles in STEM: We wrapped up our afternoon with a powerful session led by Hailey Redderson, an NCSU Chemistry Doctoral Student. Hailey shared her personal journey navigating STEM with a disability, leaving us with invaluable reminders to secure accommodations early, champion accessibility for everyone, and embrace failure as a stepping stone to finding your passion.

A massive thank you to all of our wonderful speakers for dedicating their time, energy, and wisdom to our students today. We are wrapping up the day feeling motivated, empowered, and so excited to see what Day 3 has in store! 🐾❤️
