The North Carolina Center for Nonprofits was proud to be a part of Nonprofit Management Essentials with The Endowment at UNCW!

Our team joined nonprofit leaders from across the region to explore leadership, governance, finance, and organizational capacity, grounded in the Center’s Principles & Practices.

Thank you to the New Hanover Community Endowment for partnering with us and to everyone who joined the conversation. We loved connecting, learning, and strengthening North Carolina’s nonprofit community together!

The conference sessions line up is here!

From practical tools to big-picture conversations, there’s a lot to choose from – and we’re excited about the expertise and perspectives coming together for this year's Conference for NC Nonprofits.

More is still to come – including the keynote, plenary, and deep dives – but you can check out what we have planned and register while rates are still low.

Special thanks to our session review committee, who put a lot of thought into selecting topics that reflect what nonprofits are facing right now.

Don't miss the conversation this Friday 8/28 with David Heinen about the do's and dont's for nonprofits leading up to this fall's election - everything from educating and engaging voters, advocating on ballot measures, staying nonpartisan, and protecting your org's reputation as a trusted community resource.

What do nonprofits have to do with voting? A LOT!

Says Nonprofit VOTE in their new On the Frontlines of Democracy report: "In a time when civic participation is challenged by polarization, misinformation, and barriers to access, the nonprofit sector remains one of the most trusted and effective bridges between communities and democracy. Nonprofit leaders are renewing civic life itself, ensuring that engagement is local, inclusive, and lasting."

Nonprofits are already talking with people, building relationships, and helping them navigate the issues that affect their everyday lives. That puts them in a unique position to help people get informed and get involved.

And they're not just organizations focused on elections or advocacy. They’re food pantries, health clinics, housing centers, family service nonprofits, and many more. For nonprofits serving people who have been historically underrepresented at the polls, those relationships can make a real difference.

But knowing why advocacy work matters is only part of the picture. What can your nonprofit actually (legally) do?

We’re covering that in two upcoming webinars with practical guidance, resources, and a clear look at how nonprofits can educate and engage voters while keeping it nonpartisan. Join us for one or both sessions.

We appreciate recognitions like this week’s as an added opportunity to talk about the many ways nonprofits show up for North Carolina – in our communities, in our everyday lives, and in our economy.

There’s work we see – and work we rely on without realizing a nonprofit is behind it.

That’s what “getting it done” looks like.

Communities can help nonprofits get it done, too:

*Donate when and what you can
*Volunteer your time or skills
*Attend nonprofit activities, performances or classes
*Share nonprofit stories and opportunities with friends
*Speak up for policies and public investments that support nonprofits & communities
*Thank nonprofit staff and volunteers doing the work
*Learn how nonprofits strengthen NC communities and economy

To everyone who works, volunteers, and contributes to the work of nonprofits throughout our NC communities: you’re doing a great job.

Because so much of what nonprofits do is woven so deeply into everyday life, people may not even realize that the benefits and services they see all around them, use, and rely on come directly from nonprofits.

It’s in the places we learn.
The arts we enjoy.
The people we turn to.
The care we count on.
The communities we’re part of.

Nonprofits help people, families, and our communities learn, grow create, connect and live every day.

This National Nonprofit Day - and every day - we see you. We appreciate you.
