Hertford, NC - Population 1,912

Exciting things are happening in downtown Hertford!

The Town of Hertford has released a new video on the renovation of the historic Hertford State Theatre. Watch to get an inside look at the theatre and hear from Janice M. Cole and Archsmith Studio Architect Jacob Combee as they share insights about this amazing revitalization project.

Opened in 1937 and closed in the 1960s, the theatre sat vacant for decades until the Town of Hertford purchased it in 2024 as part of a major downtown revitalization effort. Thanks to an $850,000 grant from the NC Department of Commerce, restoration is now underway to bring this landmark back to life and return it to its place at the heart of the community.
