⛈️LIGHTNING SAFETY WEEK:
With more summer storms popping up across North Carolina, now is the time to be prepared!
⚡ When thunder roars, go indoors. If you can hear thunder, you're close enough to be struck by lightning. Wait at least 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder before heading back outside.
Lightning can also cause significant property damage. Take a few minutes to review your homeowners or renters insurance coverage, document your belongings with photos or video, and know what's covered before severe weather strikes.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey recently toured the Samaritan's Purse Operations Center in North Wilkesboro alongside Rep. Blair Eddins to learn more about the organization's disaster response efforts and the vital role it plays in helping communities recover in times of emergency. From hurricanes and floods to other major disasters, Samaritan's Purse has helped countless families across North Carolina and beyond. Following Hurricane Helene, their teams and volunteers were on the ground in western NC providing critical assistance, helping residents begin the difficult process of recovery and rebuilding. Commissioner Causey appreciates the dedication of the Samaritan's Purse team and the many volunteers who bring help to those in need.

If you find a claim that doesn't seem right, call your doctor and ask them if it was an error. Mistakes can happen. If they aren't willing to fix it, then it could be fraud. Contact the SMP to report that.

Our NCDOI team had a great time at the Blueberry Festival🫐 in Burgaw!
As hurricane season is now underway, our NCDOI Regional Directors Marcia Kelly and Yvonne Norris spent the day talking with people about storm preparedness and sharing valuable information to help folks prepare before severe weather strikes. This was a great chance to connect with community members and make sure they know about the resources we have available to help people before, during, and after a storm. It was also a pleasure to reconnect with former NCDOI employee Allen Feezor, who served under former Insurance Commissioner Jim Long.
