This past weekend, members of the Ralston Fire Department Honor Guard attended the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

This is a trip our Honor Guard participates in almost every year, but this year held special significance. Five members of the Honor Guard, along with family members of our late Honor Guard Commander Dave Shively, were in attendance for the ceremonies and events held throughout the weekend.

Ralston Fire & Rescue now has five bricks placed along the Walk of Honor. Over the past year, we added two new bricks, one in honor and recognition of Dave Shively and the other for our late Assistant Honor Guard Commander, Roger Hansen. This also marked the first time everyone was able to see the memorial bricks in person since their placement.

Dave and Roger attended the NFFF Memorial Service together for many years alongside many other Honor Guard Members. While this was the first year they were not physically present, their legacy and spirit will remain there forever.

Please note: Dave Shively’s years of service were unfortunately inscribed incorrectly on the memorial brick. A replacement has been ordered with the correct information; however, it was not completed in time for Memorial Weekend and will soon be replaced.

Training that makes a difference 🔥

Acquired structure training doesn’t come around often but when it does, it’s an incredible opportunity. Last month, Ralston Fire & Rescue members spent several days training and gaining hands-on skills in structures made available through city development.

From honing critical skills to training in real-world conditions, these experiences help build stronger, more prepared crews.

We’re grateful for the opportunity and proud of the dedication our members bring to serving the community every day.
