Another great weekend assisting at the Ramah Navajo Fair and Rodeo alongside the wonderful Pinehill EMS Team

Candy Kitchen VFD provided personnel for EMS response for rodeo events as well as water for dust mitigation in the arena throughout the weekend. Always a pleasure supporting our neighbors in Pinehill.

Big thanks to Fence Lake Volunteer Fire Department for sending personnel as well!

Exceptional Drought, the most severe drought category, has returned to New Mexico for the first time in nearly a year.

The last time any part of New Mexico was in Exceptional Drought was October 2025. Extreme Drought has also expanded across north-central New Mexico and south into Lincoln County.

Wondering why burn ban restrictions haven’t been lifted? These are the current drought conditions in New Mexico.

Majority of Cibola County is still classified as in extreme drought. We appreciate everyone respecting the burn bans and let’s hope we continue to get more of this monsoon moisture!

THE NATION IS NOW AT PREPAREDNESS LEVEL 5

The United States has reached Preparedness Level 5, the highest level on the national wildland fire preparedness scale.

At PL5, wildland fire resources across the country are heavily committed. Crews, engines, aircraft, incident management teams and support personnel are being prioritized and moved where they are needed most.

Active geographic areas must take emergency measures to sustain incident operations. Even areas experiencing lower fire activity are providing resources and approaching drawdown levels.

Across the country, IMTA members are actively supporting the wildland fire response. From incident management and coordination to planning, logistics, public information, and other critical functions, these professionals are helping communities and responders navigate an increasingly demanding fire season.

Everyone can help protect these limited resources. Prevent human-caused fires, follow local fire restrictions, and remain prepared for changing conditions.
