MCFD #3 and MCFD #5 were paged to a hit/ruptured gas line out in the county. The area of concern was quickly found and public access was shut down around the area. Both departments worked together to safely shut off the flow of natural gas until Kansas Gas Service arrived to repair the break. The repair could take several hours so it’s best to give the workers space out in rural Lincolnville area.

Texas A&M Forest Service recently approved $29.3 million in funding for grants to Texas volunteer fire departments through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program.

The program awarded 531 grants addressing volunteer fire department requests for personal protective equipment, slip-on units, fire and rescue equipment, water tenders, small brush trucks and training aids.

Recognizing Texas volunteer fire department’s critical ongoing needs for vehicles, equipment, safety gear and training, the 89th Texas Legislature appropriated approximately $88 million in funding for the biennium (fiscal years 2026-27)—the most ever allocated—to keep up with annual demand.

Our guys and tender 2226 made it home safe and sound from our deployment in SW Kansas. We met and worked with a lot of amazing people we’re glad our department allowed us to assist the local departments out there, someday we may need the help back. We gained a lot of experience personally, put our truck and equipment through tests we wouldn’t otherwise see for along time, all while providing an important role of supplying water for fire suppression directly. We did this all while maintaining equipment and personnel at home. It is important to address that some reimbursement will come from the KSFM office we are told to help off set our costs locally. We are in great hopes that we will be able to answer the call again if the need arises in the future.

It’s been an eventful last few days in SW Kansas. It’s a different role than we are use to but enjoy assisting by supplying our 5000 gallons of water to the direct attack resources for the fires. We’ve worked in areas of Clark county the first day and the second day was spent in Meade county helping those folks. Today is a critical day as the conditions will reach red flag levels, extreme winds and low rh levels. Resources will be on the ready for any break outs or new starts. Our guys have been starting operations early afternoon and working until 3-4am. Crews are rested and an assignment awaits for us today soon.

Two personnel have deployed to SW Ks for the on going wildfires. This will be a different role for us this time as our large tender 2226 was requested by the Kansas State Fire Marshals Office. This is our opportunity to assist as some of our equipment/apparatus are on programs with the state. This is all being done will still having a tender/engine available at home .
