Monday, August 22, Montessori students start the new school year at 8:05 am!

This year we are urging families to "Strive for Less Than Five" absences/tardies/early checkouts for the year. We love having our students in class, and embrace the research that shows that lifelong patterns are set with elementary school attendance.

Looking forward to the best year yet!

Ending the first week of Summer STEAM Camp at Ramona Community Campus...campers in grades 1-3 extended yesterday's individual marble races to collaborate on a giant marble race constructed from pool noodles! Watercolor and Fibonacci numbers were the focus for campers in grades 4-6 today, while our middle school campers launched bottle rockets.

Summer STEAM continues next week with openings at each grade level. Summer STEAM happens M-F 8:30-11:30, $125 for 5 days. Reduced fees for those families who qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch. We also offer transportation to the free lunch program at RES and hand-off to Boys & Girls Club for the afternoon, if needed.

Even without camp...make your Summer STEAM-y by exploring the world around you!

Today at Summer STEAM Camp, campers in grades 1-3 built marble race courses. After a science experiment timing water drops, campers in grades 4-6 wrote a reflection on the process and results. Combining art and crustacean study, our middle school campers researched the sea creatures and used various glues to represent them artistically. So fun to see the combinations of Science and Technololgy and Art and Engineering and Math in our daily activities!

Summer STEAM Campers today glazed the ceramic reliefs made yesterday. At all grade levels, our Master Gardener/Art Teacher, Mrs. Lynne Pilkerton, shared information about common garden pests. Campers then practiced designing for 3D printing, watched a demonstration of 3D printing, and took home their own 3D-printed "bug". Middle school students explored probablity in the game, Yatzee, while wearing their color-coded brain hats. Campers in grades 1-3 listed "I wonder..." questions for future research, then caught some air to see how much it expanded after 4 minutes in the sun. Are we having too much fun?!?

At the first day of Summer STEAM Camp, campers in grades 1-3 created galaxies and made garden-inspired ceramic reliefs. After learning about the context of California's drought, campers in grades 4-6 went about designing a solution through the creation of water pipelines. Then there were water balloons...not a bad thing on a 111 degree day in Ramona! Middle School campers began the day by measuring the unmeasurable!

There is still room in Summer STEAM Camp for all students going into grades 1-8. We have students from all over Ramona, Lakeside and even Imperial Valley! Summer visitors are more than welcome. Four days left in this week, or come for our final session next week, June 27-July 1!
