Remembering FF Michael Reilly.

20 years ago today, the FDNY faced the loss of two firefighters at a store fire in the South Bronx. One of the firefighters was one of our own. Michael Reilly (25), who began his career in the Ramsey FD, then moved to Connecticut and then was appointed to the FDNY in April of 2006. Mike completed his training and was assigned to Engine 75 in the Bronx. The fire at 1575 Walton street went to 3 alarms. A collapse occurred trapping several members taking the lives of Mike and Lt. Howard Carpluck. The RFD will always remember Mike and we will keep his family in our thoughts and prayers.

On Monday Night the Tuxedo Fire Department welcomed the Ramsey Fire & Rescue Departments for an excellent night of car fire drills. Members from both departments gained valuable hands on experience by dealing with real car fires and learning proper attack techniques for these emergencies that can quickly escalate if not handled efficiently. Thanks again for the amazing hospitality!

Early this morning, while most were fast asleep, your dedicated volunteers responded to Route 17 North near the Bottle King for a reported tractor trailer on fire. Engines 431, 433 and Rescue 8 responded. It was ultimately determined to be a trailer brake issue with no active fire. The area was cooled down and crews returned.

Last evening, Ramsey FD and Rescue were dispatched to a residence on Elbert Street for the reported odor of smoke with breakers popping. Upon arrival, an odor was confirmed inside the home and crews began investigations. Engines 433, 431, Tower Ladder 441 and Rescue 8 responded. Power was secured accordingly and crews returned without further incident.

Earlier this evening, Tower 442 was requested to the Village of Ridgewood on the cover assignment while they operated at a working structure fire. Tower 442 responded in the area of East Ridgewood Avenue for an underground electrical vault fire.

This morning at 8:40 am, Ramsey FD and Rescue were dispatched to the Shop Rite in Interstate Shopping Center for the reported smoke condition inside. Arriving PD units confirmed heavy smoke inside the store, prompting an Engine and Tower Ladder from Mahwah to respond. Crews investigated and found the cause to be a burnt transformer in a roof top HVAC unit. The business was vented and returned to normal operations, all FD units returned. Thank you to Mahwah Fire Rescue Co1 and Mahwah Fire Company 2 for the assistance!
