Hot diggity dawg! Steering box is IN!
Now put the body back on to see how much to shorten the steering shaft. Had this car together and apart so many times, it's like playing with an erector set.

So, working on the steering today. The steering arm on the 1948 ford f1 axle uses a ball end for the drag link connection. The 1955 ford T bird pitman arm uses a tapered shaft tierod end. No problem I thought, I'll just drill the pitman arm out to 5/8" and use a heim end, then thread the drag link tube, cut the ball socket end off the 1948 drag link and weld it into the new tube. Then I looked at the splines on the different pitman arms... they are interchangable! Same length and offset! Ok, cut the old drag link in half, slide it into the tube, plug weld, end weld... saves me $30 and don't have to buy a 5/8 tap for another $35.
